April’s jobs report should thrill job seekers in these industries

U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Employment Situation April 2018

Amusement parks may be opening for the season, but that’s not why we’ve been feeling like we’re on a rollercoaster. If you’ve been paying attention to the nation’s job growth, then you’ll know the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) monthly jobs reports has been experiencing some ups and downs.

After a strong February (revised to 324,000 jobs), followed by a weak March (revised to 135,000 jobs), there was much speculation to see what kind of ride April’s jobs report would take us on, with economist estimates circling around 195,000. So, buckle up, and keep hands and feet inside at all times because…

We’re thrilled to announce that the labor market added 164,000 jobs in April, per the most recent report. While this number does fall a little shy of economists’ estimates, it’s still a solid improvement to the labor market. Over the past three months, job gains have averaged 208,000 jobs each month.

In addition to employment, wages hiked up, too. Average hourly earnings continued to move up, increasing by 4 cents for a total of $26.84.

Ending a six-month period of no change, the unemployment rate dropped from 4.1% to 3.9%, in April. CNNreports that the last time the unemployment rate fell below 4% was in 2000.

Gains were made across a number of sectors last month. See which industries experienced the most job growth in April:
