The Merch Manager oversees all merchandising operations within assigned departments, including layouts, product features, markdowns, freight flow, and loss prevention. They act as the Manager on Duty in the absence of the Store Manager and handle HR functions like hiring and staff development. Their goals include meeting sales targets, improving profits, reducing shrink, and maintaining store standards.
Principle duties involve organizing daily activities, training staff, executing company initiatives (ad sets, markdowns, freight processing), and ensuring excellent customer service. They communicate policies, audit controls, and help prevent theft through visible management and positive customer interactions.
Position requirements include flexible hours, ability to work at different locations, effective communication skills, physical ability to lift up to 70 lbs, and basic math skills. Candidates should have 3-5 years management experience, leadership ability, high energy, and proficiency with relevant computer systems. Minimum age is 18 with a high school diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred.
