Located in suburban Kansas City, Shawnee Mission Medical Center is searching for highly skilled and patient-focused psychiatrists to care for patients in a 42-bed inpatient Behavioral Health program, large Intensive Outpatient Program, and psychiatric consultation services.

Our psychiatrists provide mental health, substance abuse, and dual diagnosis treatment for voluntary adult and senior inpatients. We also offer a robust ECT program for inpatients and outpatients; a highly reputable Intensive Outpatient Program with tracks for mental health, substance abuse, and dual diagnosis; and a Behavioral Health Assessment Center. Call schedule is 1 in 5.

About Johnson County and Kansas City

Johnson County, Kansas (population 566,000) is part of the greater Kansas City metropolitan area (2.75 million people in two states, 11 counties, 141 cities) which lies on both sides of the Kansas and Missouri state line. Its extensive park and trail system includes Shawnee Mission Park, which has a 120-acre lake popular for boating, fishing, and sailboarding, as well as numerous picnic areas, horseback riding and nature trails, play areas, an archery range, and a dog off-leash area. Mill Creek Streamway Park is a beautiful linear park with over 17 miles of pedestrian and bicycle trails, four miles of horseback riding trails, and open spaces for leisure pursuits such as jogging, picnicking, and nature hiking. There are also numerous community theaters, significant public art projects, and local and national shopping venues including stores such as Nordstrom, IKEA, and Crate & Barrel.

Nearby Kansas City, the “city of fountains,” is an exciting, cosmopolitan city. The visual arts flourish, thanks to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and dozens of galleries. Science City is a popular museum with over 50 interactive environments to explore, including an astronaut training center and a high-wire bike. The 1,769-acre Swope Park features the Starlight Theater and the Kansas City Zoo. Music lovers will enjoy an eclectic variety of styles, from opera (Lyric Opera) to symphony (Kansas City Symphony) to jazz and blues. And the city’s professional sports teams—Kansas City Royals Baseball Club, Kansas City Chiefs Professional Football team, and Sporting KC Professional Soccer team—will delight any sports enthusiast. Rounding out the fun are other popular attractions: Schlitterbahn Water Park, Kansas Speedway, American Jazz Museum, Country Club Plaza upscale shopping district, Sea Life Aquarium, Legoland, Union Station historical site, and City Market farmers’ and entertainment market.
