What you will be doing:
Team Leaders are responsible for the 24/7 accountability, direct control, supervision, health, welfare, and safety of the cadets enrolled at the AMYA and are part of a successful leadership team dedicated to changing and improving the lives of youth 16-18 years of age.

Some of the responsibilities include but are not limited to assessing training and living situations; Observing, correcting, and reporting cadet behavior and determining proper disciple when deemed appropriate; Instructing and conducting physical training, to include road marches, calisthenics, strength and endurance training; and Transporting cadets to community service programs, work experience sites, and other authorized off campus locations.

AMYA is located at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER) and is a residential state-run secondary training and educational institution within the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, accredited by Cognia and is one of the evidence-based, nationally recognized National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Programs for "at-risk" youth located throughout the United States.

The work environment you can expect:
The environment is a structured, quasi-military setting focused on equipping youth with the tools to be productive citizens. ChalleNGe uses the Experiential Learning Model as its primary learning method for the eight core components - leadership, teamwork, citizenship, life coping skills, health and hygiene, job skills, physical fitness training, and academic excellence. 

We are looking for applicants with the following knowledge, skills and experience:
  • Some knowledge of adolescent development.
  • Ability to teach adolescents leadership, teamwork, service to community, health, hygiene, physical training, first aid and CPR, and outdoor skills.
  • Ability to promote socially acceptable attitudes and behaviors, use tact, recognize that value systems may vary, treat individuals with respect and consideration, reason logically and arrive at sound conclusions.
  • Ability to develop and encourage teamwork.
  • Ability to read and comprehend policies, procedures, manuals, and other written material.

The successful applicants must pass a federal background check to qualify for military base access, which is required with this position’s work location on base. The background check will include fingerprinting. All job offers are conditional pending successful completion of the federal background check and issuance of a Defense Biometrics Identification System (DBIDS) card allowing base access. 

Also, you must be able to maintain the clearance throughout your employment. Using a private vehicle will require a valid Alaska Driver's License, proof of vehicle insurance, and a valid State of Alaska vehicle registration.

State employees are guests on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson; clearance and access are not within the State’s control.
