Armed Physical Security Officer provides access control and protection for ERCOT against unauthorized intrusion or acts of sabotage. Responsible for a variety of customer service and security related duties that include providing information and assistance to visitors, employees, and staff; patrolling areas to detect security, safety and/or fire hazards; securing buildings; monitoring and controlling access to buildings and parking lots; information security; reporting incidents through detailed documentation; responding to calls for service; and assisting local authorities during emergencies. JOB DUTIES Demonstrates proficiency and knowledge in an administrative or technical area. Applies acquired job skills and ERCOT policies and procedures to complete assigned tasks and expand skills. Works on assignments that are usually within an area of expertise that are semi-routine in nature. Applies knowledge and understanding to resolve most problems and issues but recognizes the need for occasional deviation from accepted practice. Normally follows established procedures on routine work and requires instructions on new and/or complex assignments. May provide informal guidance to lower-level colleagues. ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES As a state licensed Level III commissioned security officer, will be required to carry an ERCOT issued firearm at all times while on duty Control access of personnel, materials, and vehicles Process security access of visitors Operate radios, telephones, and computer equipment Monitor alarm system and CCTV equipment Perform security patrols and observe all activity at assigned post Provide first responder services as needed Report equipment malfunctions that could have adverse impact to security, safety, or operations Deter criminal activity, misconduct, and safety violations Interact with ERCOT employees, contractors, and visitors at ERCOT facilities with courtesy and professionalism Be available to provide security services at other ERCOT locations as needed Compose reports for record of events and/or incidents Perform other duties as assigned REQUIRED EXPERIENCE Requires minimum 2 years job related work experience in excess of degree requirements in physical security, law enforcement, corrections, military capacity, or customer service capacity If applicable, provide DD214 discharge document with discharge status indicates Pass a physical abilities test in accordance with the Security Training and Qualification Guidelines Pass State-required training or other qualifications for licensing Must be able to pass periodic physical fitness tests demonstrating the ability to meet heavy physical demands such as patrolling, performing emergency response/rescue functions, and apprehending/detaining violators Must possess a current level III commissioned security officer license or complete and pass all requirements outlined in Texas Administrative Code 35.81 to acquire and maintain a Level III commissioned security officer license within 30 days of hire. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE Minimum 2 years TXDPS Level III security experience operating under the ERCOT Security Training and Qualification Plan (Preferred). Eligible candidates should be enrolled in an academic bachelors or post graduate degree program maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The ERCOT Engineer Development Program (EDP) is a 12- to 16-month, self-paced program geared toward entry-level engineers looking to start a career in the power industry. Through the program, an EDP Engineer receives one-on-one mentoring, specialized training, and exposure to the work performed by each of the engineering groups at ERCOT. The program allows engineers to develop the fundamental skills necessary to reach their full potential while gaining an understanding of the types of engineering work ERCOT has to offer. EDP management supports participants each step of the way as they progress through the program. Upon completion, graduates are placed as full-time engineers within one of ERCOT’s engineering groups. The GMS Development Program (GDP) is designed to provide entry-level and early career professionals with the skills necessary to become successful Power System and Computer Engineers. The program, which is based in ERCOT’s Grid and Market Solutions (GMS) Department, will provide experience in day-to-day work and instruction in the fundamentals of electric power systems engineering, grid and market applications, software programming, and IT service and operations management. The GDP offers one-on-one mentoring, training, field trips, and special assignments. These assignments allow GDP engineers to become knowledgeable and familiar with the various business areas at ERCOT. The GMS leadership team prepares GDP engineers for a future career at ERCOT in power systems and computer engineering. The System Operator Development Program (ODP) is intended to combine real-time daily operations in an exciting work setting to prepare participants with the vital skills necessary to be successful in such a critical position — providing 24x7x365 on-demand support to manage the flow of electric power to more than 26 million Texas customers. If you are new to the industry, this program introduces you to the Bulk Electric System by combining introductory courses with the NERC Certification Exam Preparation Program in preparation to pass the NERC Certification Exam.
