SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Program Coordinator and/or designee, instructors are responsible for leading, planning and implementing a camp class that is creative, safe and developmentally appropriate for elementary school students, middle school students and early high school students. Instructors are responsible for teaching an age appropriate class that inspires student’s creative processes and self-expression through learning the skills and fundamentals of different Visual Arts activities. As a member of Summer Staff, you are expected to work in cooperation with ALL camp and building staff: some instructors will work in multiple facilities.

Mandatory Dates:

June 7 to 11, 2021— Staff training week

June 14 to August 13, 2021 Camp Sessions



KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

PRE-CAMP

  • Complete all paperwork by deadline provided
  • Complete all appropriate trainings
  • Read and follow updated policies and procedures
  • Communicate any concerns or issues directly to the Camp Director
  • Get to know and work cooperatively with art teachers at pre camp curriculum meetings
  • Complete and detailed 8 week activity calendar of projects/activities
  • Work with arts staff to attain camp materials

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Organize, develop, implement and coordinate visual arts activities according to overall camp curriculum themes.
  • Assemble a capstone exhibit of student work
  • Follow Camp Handbook guidelines
  • Ensure the safety of all campers
  • Create a positive, fun and inclusive atmosphere promoting teamwork and/or individual work
  • Lead specific age-appropriate activities/lessons
  • Be on time and ready to receive students as specified on your schedule
  • Provide additional information to campers who need extra guidance or additional challenges
  • Communicate any issues or concerns about anything directly to the Camp Director
  • Be able to problem solve and adapt to the needs of campers, modifying instruction on a case by case basis
  • Provide feedback to students throughout each lesson
  • Inspire creative thinking through examples and technique demonstration
  • Give clear and concise directions to camp counselors
  • Manage any issues that arise as described in the camp handbook
  • Perform other related work as assigned by Coordinator or Director


HOURS

Generally between 10 am and 3pm.

Rate

Rate starts at $17/hour

REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum age of 18 yrs. old
  • College degree; in visual arts or education preferred
  • Strong interest, maturity and judgment in working with children in indoor/outdoor setting
  • Possess the ability to work as a team member with other counselors and senior staff members
  • Responsible, friendly, enthusiastic, patient and willing to learn

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF WORK

Ability to work primarily indoors and is occasionally subject to outdoor environmental conditions – no effective protection from the weather conditions or temperature changes. The employee performs tasks outdoors related to recreational programs, weather can be hot in the summer, etc., while in the fall and spring can be cool/cold.

SUPPLIES AND STUDIO MAINTENANCE

  • Communicate all classroom and supply needs directly to the Camp Director
  • Keep all supply cabinets and spaces clean and well organized
  • Ensure that the space is returned as found at the end of each class, enlisting students in the cleanup process
  • Redistribute your camp supplies after camp ends to storage as necessary
