Assistant Professor of History (Two Positions) - Worcester State University
The Department of History and Political Science at Worcester State University seeks to hire two tenure-track Assistant Professors of History. The teaching load is four courses per semester. Successful candidates must be prepared to further Worcester State's commitment to increasing and fostering diversity, inclusion, and multicultural competence in our campus community. Teaching may include work in interdisciplinary programs such as Civic Engagement, Disability Studies, Ethnic Studies, Environmental and Sustainability Studies, Global Studies, Pre-Law, Public History, and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Instructional formats may include face-to-face classes, blended (hybrid), or fully online courses. Responsibilities of the position include carrying out a scholarly research agenda, advising undergraduate students, departmental service, and otherwise contributing to the academic and strategic missions of the department and the university.
The first position is for American history with emphasis on Massachusetts history, economic history, the history of capitalism, Native American history, and/or the history of immigration. Expertise and/or experience with history pedagogy and the Massachusetts social studies curriculum frameworks is an asset, as many History majors are also Education majors and minors seeking certification within the Commonwealth. The successful candidate will teach surveys in American History, required methodological and capstone courses for the History major, and electives in their field of expertise.
The second position is for Middle East/North African History. Period and specialization are open. Ability to contribute to our minor in Middle East Studies is an asset. The successful candidate will teach surveys in World History, required methodological and capstone courses for the History major, and electives in their field of expertise.
Ph.D. in History; the degree must be conferred by September 1, 2022.
