The Office of Admissions includes over 50 staff who are engaged in the work of recruitment and outreach to prospective undergraduates, and making admission decisions on all applicants for freshman, transfer, and post baccalaureate undergraduate admission. Admissions is a unit of the Division of Student Services & Enrollment Management and works closely with several other units of that division, especially Scholarships/Financial Aid and Orientation, as well as many other parts of campus.
Within Admissions, the recruitment & outreach team that includes this position is a dynamic, committed group of professionals with diverse backgrounds and perspectives who are often the first UO representatives that thousands of students per year from around the globe will meet in the process of choosing whether to apply to, and ultimately attend, the University of Oregon. Their care for the students extends beyond the desire to have students choose Oregon, and also extends to our outreach mission, making sure that students and their families feel empowered about the college preparation, search, and choice process, regardless of where they enroll. In light of the university’s growing presence internationally, we are adding to this dedicated staff in order to accomplish even more in our work.
The Associate Director for International Recruitment (ADIR) will coordinate and provide leadership for all aspects of international recruitment. The ADIR will develop and regularly update strategy for UO’s international recruitment efforts. They will represent and recruit for the University of Oregon by traveling internationally and domestically, and through innovative virtual programming, to meet university international enrollment goals. The ADIR will manage the annual international recruitment budget.
This position reports to the Assistant Vice President for SSEM/Director of Admissions, and works closely with the office leadership team, supervises international staff within the office, and collaborates with various other partners around the campus, especially the American English Institute (AEI) and Division of Global Engagement (DGE). This position also oversees the UO’s work with agents, agencies, and other external third-party partners who expand the university’s reach into a variety of international markets throughout the world.
Additional expectations of the position:
• This position requires an extensive amount of travel including international travel and travel to locations that are not serviced by public transportation. The incumbent must be able to travel internationally.
• This position must be able to work irregular hours and travel extensively on nights and weekends.
• This position will require a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain UO Driver Certification.
• Master’s degree in higher education, international studies, or another relevant field or equivalent combination of skills, experience, and education
• Three years of experience in higher education admissions and recruitment
• Demonstrated oral and written communication skills and experience speaking to both large and small groups
• Excellent interpersonal skills and cross-cultural communication experience
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students and others from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds
• Demonstrated program-planning skills
• Computer skills including proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new systems quickly
• Demonstrated leadership skills including the ability to work independently and collaboratively in an environment requiring a high level of discretion
• Demonstrated success with virtual recruitment and outreach activities
• Strong organizational skills including the ability to set priorities and demonstrate initiative
• Experience supervising employees and delegating work appropriately
• Experience studying, living, or working overseas
• Fluency in a second language
• Experience using SLATE CRM tools, and success in training staff on their use
• Experience using and interpreting analytical data such as College Board or ACT tools, or other similar software
• Experience successfully hiring, developing, and retaining staff
• Experience in a comprehensive, public, residential Research-classification institution, or other AAU institution
• Experience working with international agents or other third-party partners
