Athletic Trainer Overview 

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:   

  • Provides prevention, assessment, treatment (including first aid), rehabilitation and reconditioning of injuries as set forth by the NATA Board of certification.
  • Provides all prescribed treatments and recommendations by attending physician.
  • Communicates effectively with patients and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Acts as a liaison between the patient being treated and the attending physician.
  • Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level of population served.
  • Completes appropriate continuing education to maintain license and certification(s).
  • Performs other duties including Performance Goals developed by manager and employee and reported in the employee’s Performance Review as part of UMPhysicians’ Performance Management tools.


Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in athletic training or related field
  • Current CPR/BLS certification
  • Current NATA certification and Minnesota Athletic Trainer License
  • Experience in an athletic training setting
