The Automation Technician is responsible for preventative and predictive maintenance of automation systems, including designing, programming, troubleshooting, and improving automated machinery or computer systems.
They repair electrical components like switches, motors, relays, and sensors, and create or enhance automation technologies for manufacturing processes.
Key duties include creating wiring diagrams, testing and installing industrial controls such as PLCs, HMIs, drives, and robotic controllers, and maintaining industrial networks.
They troubleshoot and repair control systems, participate in continuous improvement initiatives, and may travel between locations.
Additional responsibilities involve conducting preventive maintenance, calibrating instruments, training production staff, and leading root cause analysis to reduce downtime.
Qualifications include an associate degree or equivalent experience, knowledge of PLCs, robotics, and electrical/mechanical systems, strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills, and the ability to read schematics and use measurement tools.
