About the Position

Under the direction of the Behavioral Health Manager, the Behavioral Health Clinician III provides counseling services to individual patients, their families and significant others as well as group sessions by performing the following duties and responsibilities as described below.

Core Duties

  • Provides brief strength-based therapy to eligible patients, their significant others and family, as requested and initiated by the patient, or as referred by various providers. Services may be provided in individual or group sessions.
  • Complies with established department policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and patient service standards.
  • Conducts follow-up as appropriate based on results of evaluation.
  • Based on the individualized patient assessment, develops a plan of provision and services. Works with the patient to develop an agreement regarding goals and objectives for therapy, as well as treatment plan and discharge plan. If needed, make referrals for more intensive psychological and/or psychiatric services.
  • Plans and administers therapeutic treatment such as cognitive therapy, behavior modification and stress management therapy to assist patient in managing their daily life and improving health.
  • Collaborates with physicians, nurses, case managers and therapists regarding patient needs and problems.
  • Refers patients with apparent need for psychotropic medication to physician and/or psychiatrist where appropriate.
  • Participates in integrated system of care, staff meetings, case review, consultation/supervision sessions and other forums as required.

Additional duties are assigned.


Licensed clinicians with a minimum of 2 years post licensure who are eligible to provide supervision per licensing board (BBS) may perform clinical supervision tasks as needed for department, under the direction of the BH Director.

Education and/or Experience Required

  • Master's Degree in Social Work required.
  • The Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required for licensed providers working in the primary care setting.
  • LCSW in good standing with California Board of Behavioral Sciences required.
