What We Are Looking For

A Bioinformatics Engineer ready to tackle the tough programming challenges as we build and scale our NGS and ddPCR bioinformatics pipelines. This person will be responsible for writing fast, efficient bioinformatics code to alleviate computational bottlenecks in our workflows and provide the engineering know-how that enables discovery. The ideal candidate is an efficiency-first person that seeks not just to solve problems but to solve them by the most elegant means possible.

Do you thrive on taking and owning novel ideas from white board to product release? Do you want to work in a multi-disciplinary, dynamic environment that has the steady support of a larger, established company? Come join us at the Digital Biology Group and lead the way in the development of the next generation of computational biology tools.

Responsibilities

  • Develop efficient software to process sequencing and ddPCR data generated on our industry-leading partitioning platforms.
  • Collaborate with the bioinformatics and data science teams to identify computational bottlenecks in existing workflows.
  • Collaborate with our bioinformatics and cloud operations teams to scale our workflows into the cloud.
  • Develop automated systems for building, testing, and deploying bioinformatics pipelines at scale.
  • Understand technical challenges and identify their solutions.

Qualifications

  • MS degree in computer science, bioinformatics, or similar OR
  • Bachelor degree in computer science, bioinformatics, or similar with equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience programming in at least one compiled programming language (C/C++, C#, Rust, Go, etc.).
  • Proficient in using scripting languages in a Unix environment (Python, R, Bash, JavaScript, Perl).
  • Experience with cloud computing and scaling workflows into the cloud.
  • Understanding of test-driven development and unit testing framework.
  • Knowledge of containerization platforms (Docker, Singularity, etc.).

The following will be desirable but not essential:

  • Experience working with single-cell genomics.
  • Experience with digital or quantitative PCR assay design.
  • Experience with Agile development and issue tracking systems (Jira).
  • Experience with design control processes.
