As a Buyer, you will be responsible for the procurement of all maintenance, repair, and operations supplies, coordination and selection of outside services, and management of scrap materials. This role requires a strategic approach to sourcing materials and services that ensure operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Buyer Responsibilities:
Evaluating and Sourcing Suppliers- In conjunction with the purchasing manager, help ensure competitive pricing and timing on all purchased materials and services, while supporting inventory goals in the tool crib and shop floor.
- Communicate and negotiate with suppliers on capability, pricing, quality, and delivery to build strong relationships and strive towards continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support strategic purchasing of all supply items including MRO, maintenance supplies and services, chemicals, oils, packing materials, facility, and grounds maintenance, etc.
- Proactively suggest and support cost saving initiatives and strategic procurement goals.
- Investigate new and existing supplier sources while also developing and monitoring current suppliers.
- Monitor and release purchasing requisitions through the Plex Requisition System. Issue purchase orders and releases as required.
- Oversight of Vendor Managed Inventory Systems (VMI).
- Assists with capital purchase orders and necessary documentation.
- Track purchase orders and releases and work with source to ensure on time delivery.
- Oversee facility projects including janitorial and grounds maintenance and improvements.
- Conduct inspections of the facilities to proactively address any deficiencies.
- Communicate and negotiate with suppliers on pricing, quality, and delivery to build strong relationships and strive towards continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist with expediting while communicating and coordinating between maintenance, production, materials, and customer service etc. when shortfalls exist.
- Collect, track, and respond to all conflict mineral requirements and reporting.
- Support procurement obligations for safety, environmental, and housekeeping initiatives.
- Support new job launches with the selection of the most competitive OSS suppliers.
- Collaborate with quality, production and materials team to ensure OSS requirements are met.
- Develop new OSS suppliers for each category of operations to improve the current supply base.
- Market test and propose cost saving opportunities by consolidating strategically.
- Liaise between sales, company, and the supplier when commercial issues arise.
- Communicate forecast and volume to OSS suppliers timely to ensure expectations are aligned.
- Lead any conflict or dispute with suppliers and assist in finding effective solutions.
- Lead all communications between internal team and Scrap vendor.
- Champion the upkeep and analysis of scrap pricing rates file and its distributions
- Communicate requirements or issues from operations team to scrap vendor.
- Supervise and implement all items in LTA.
- Launch organizational training regarding mixed scrap.
- Stay abreast of market trends and market tests as necessary for cost savings.
- Other tasks, projects, and responsibilities as requested by direct supervisor.
Buyer Education & Desired Requirements
- Education:
- College degree obtained, or enrolled in and pursuing degree in relevant field, or equivalent experience.
- Preferred Experience:
- 2-5 years in a transferable industry or position.
- Preferred Training/Skills:
- Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of MRO supply items, maintenance supplies/services, chemicals, oils, lubricants, packaging supplies, and facility related items.
- Ability to analytically solve problems, communicate professionally and collaborate with other departments
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships, both internally and externally
- Demonstrated competency to work independently, organize and accurately prioritize work with attention to details and understanding of time critical situations
- Continuous improvement mentality to drive cost reductions
- Strong negotiation and contract review skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrate an ability to lead through example and encourage positive attitudes and mindsets amongst team members.
- Computer Proficiencies
- Ability to proficiently use Microsoft based programs (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook etc.)
- ERP systems experience, Plex experience is preferred.
- Experience should include MRP monitoring.
