Job Summary

This position reports to the Executive Director and coordinates with the Assistant Director on the daily operation of the facility, group visits and special events. The position provides supervision and leadership for all of the Centers educational activities and personnel. This role includes designing and presenting age-appropriate activities in astronomy, geology, space and physical sciences that are coordinated with state and national education standards for visiting school groups of all ages. Additionally, this position oversees and supervises two teachers-on-loan from the Muscogee County School District in their work with visiting students and guests. The education team oversees the interface between these visitors and our CSU Science & Education students. This position works with all the public outreach efforts of CSUs Coca-Cola Space Science Center, which requires various night and weekend commitments.

Responsibilities

Signifcant Duties & Responsibilities include: Provides leadership and vision for the Centers education programs. Oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of CCSSCs education programs for visiting school, youth and adult groups. Ensures that the content of all education programs remains engaging and relevant to targeted audiences, meets CCSSCs goals and expectations for excellence, addresses appropriate state education standards, and promotes enthusiasm and interest in science and engineering. Evaluates all CCSSC curricula and outcomes for programs both on-site and off-site to ensure they meet the needs of teachers and students, while facilitating inquiry-based learning (60%).; Provides oversight and direction of the CCSSC Education teams daily activities, including coordination for teachers-on-loan from MCSD, part- and full-time staff providing education activities, and all CSU interns presenting educational programs. Collaborates with staff across CCSSC departments, particularly in scheduling, to ensure that the CCSSC meets its mission of engaging and organized programming and events (35%).; Coordinates with other entities at Columbus State University and in the community to provide access to the Coca-Cola Space Science Center and its educational programs (5%).

Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications include: The minimum qualifications include a bachelors degree in science, science education, communications, or museum studies.; Must have demonstrated history of increasing responsibility and work experience to allow for successful oversight of daily operations of the Centers education programs, including the coordination of teachers and staff.; Must have demonstrated ability to conceive, design and oversee implementation of curriculum and activities in science education aligned with state and national education standards.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications include: Masters preferred.; A related degree with sufficient relevant experience will be considered.

Proposed Salary

The proposed annualized salary range for this position is $60,000 - $62,314 and includes full benefits.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities include: Demonstrated knowledge of space history, astronomy, geology, and physical science is required.; Demonstrated ability to coordinate and lead a team of education professionals.; Demonstrated ability to lead educational activities in astronomy, space science and physical science. Experience with education in both formal and informal settings is preferred.; Demonstrated ability to design effective educational activities in line with current educational research. Ability to align these activities with current state and national education standards.; Demonstrated ability to work with teachers and community groups and provide excellence in customer service.; Ability to work a schedule which includes occasional nights and weekends.; Demonstrated proficiency with technology, including computers and computer network interface. Experience in the classroom application of robotics or telescopes is preferred.
