Primary Responsibilities:

Obtain blood specimens from patients using venipuncture and capillary collection methods from patients of all ages from newborn to geriatric
Process specimens by centrifugation and separation
Carry out all duties while respecting member and provider confidentiality and promoting the mission and philosophy of USMD
Collect laboratory specimens from patients of all ages
Process laboratory specimens according to protocol
Demonstrate appropriate telephone etiquette
Utilize computer information systems
Adhere to organization and governmental standards, rules and regulations
Perform clerical duties
Promote good customer service.
Prioritize workload to efficiently provide Providers with information necessary
Perform specimen collection according to requirements and standard operating procedure
Demonstrate knowledge of safety collection devices and follows universal precautions
Adhere to patient confidentiality policy
Distribute laboratory reports
Comply with laboratory ordering and billing compliance
Assist with training new personnel as needed
Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and cleanliness of laboratory

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED
Medical Assistant Certification or Phlebotomy Certification or ability to obtain within 180 days of hire
Basic Life Support (BLS) current or acquired within 30 days of hire
Knowledge of / familiarity with laboratory environment
Knowledge of / familiarity with medical terminology
This position requires Tuberculosis screening as well as proof of immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis through lab confirmation of immunity, documented evidence of vaccination, or a doctor’s diagnosis of disease
You will be provisioned with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and are required to perform this role with patients and members on site, as this is an essential function of this role
Employees are required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or a similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener prior to entering the work site each day, in order to keep our work sites safe. Employees must comply with any state and local masking orders. In addition, when in a UnitedHealth Group building, employees are expected to wear a mask in areas where physical distancing cannot be attained

Preferred Qualifications:

6+ months experience
Numerical ability
Verbal and writing ability required to communicate effectively in informing employees of activities and policies
Ability to receive, comprehend, and carry out instructions; ability to work safely with equipment, supplies, and materials
