Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented CMT Technician to join our team of construction professionals. As an CMT Technician, you will be assigned to one or more active construction sites and be responsible for sampling and testing construction materials including, concrete, soils, asphalt, and other relevant materials. You will have the opportunity to advance your skillset through on-the-job training as well as attendance at certification classes.

This position will require working at night between 7PM and 7AM.

This position is only guaranteed to last through November 2025.  This position may extend beyond November 2025, but that is not known at this time.  Goins Sweitzer will work diligently to secure additional work, but that cannot be guaranteed at this time. 


Key Responsibilities

Duties will include but may not be limited to:

  1. Conduct field testing of concrete, soils, asphalt, aggregate, and other relevant construction materials for compliance with project specifications.
    1. ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I certification is required
  2. Documentation and Reporting:
    1. Utilizing a company-provided iPad, maintain detailed daily records of construction activities and materials sampled/tested
    2. Generate clear and concise inspection reports and other pertinent documentation, including test reports and observations
    3. Maintain detailed records of onsite activities to aid in the development of as-built plans.
  3. Safety Compliance:
    1. Monitor and enforce safety protocols and best practices on construction sites.
    2. Report safety hazards and assist in the resolution of safety concerns.
  4. Communication:
    1. Communicate clearly and effectively with project stakeholders, including engineering personnel, contractors, and project team members.
    2. Provide regular updates on project progress and address any concerns promptly.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent AND four (4) years of construction-related experience
  • Prior CMT or Construction Inspection Experience with active materials testing certification
  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I certification is required
  • A strong sense of responsibility, a positive attitude, and the ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to perform field measurements and complete mathematical calculations to determine areas and volumes, and convert between units
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to work both indoors and outdoors, in varying weather conditions
  • Willingness to work weekends and nights if required
  • Valid driver's license and favorable driving record
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Engineering or a related field
  • Previous experience working on or with NCDOT projects
  • Familiarity with Plans/Blueprints, Standards, and Specifications
  • The following certifications:
    • American Concrete Institute (ACI) Certifications in Strength Testing, Laboratory Technician, Aggregate Testing, etc.
    • ICC Certifications in Soils, Reinforced Concrete, etc.
    • NCDOT Certifications in Concrete, Soils (Conventional Density), and Asphalt (QMS Roadway)
    • OSHA 10-Hour Construction
