Job Details

The Controller will serve as a key member of the leadership team, responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance functions. This individual will lead the accounting department, ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, and provide strategic financial insights to support business growth and profitability.

The ideal candidate will bring strong accounting leadership experience within the AEC, professional services, or project-based environment and possess a deep understanding of percentage-of-completion accounting, project costing, WIP reporting, and multi-entity financial management.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets.
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Monitor cash flow, liquidity, and working capital requirements.
Project Accounting & Operational Finance
Oversee project accounting functions, including job costing, revenue recognition, percentage-of-completion accounting, and work-in-progress (WIP) reporting.
Partner with project managers and operational leaders to monitor project performance, profitability, and budget adherence.
Analyze project margins and identify opportunities to improve financial performance.
Ensure accurate billing, collections, and contract compliance.
Leadership & Strategy
Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Partner with executive leadership to provide financial analysis and strategic recommendations.
Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning initiatives.
Drive process improvements, automation initiatives, and financial system enhancements.
Compliance & Risk Management
Coordinate annual audits and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements.
Maintain strong internal controls and risk management practices.
Oversee insurance, bonding, and other compliance requirements common within the AEC industry.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

CPA strongly preferred.
8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including leadership responsibilities.
Prior experience within the AEC, engineering, construction, or project-based services industry preferred.
Strong understanding of project accounting, WIP schedules, job costing, and revenue recognition.
Experience leading audits and managing external accounting relationships.
Advanced proficiency with ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
