If so, we are looking for someone like you to join the Systems Performance Analysis Group (KBS) at APL.

The Analytic Platform Development section is looking for a savvy Data Engineer to make critical contributions as part of a multi-disciplinary team working on novel methods to develop next generation analysis systems for strategic deterrence programs. We are looking for individuals with strong drive and self-motivation, a passion for innovation, and an analytical mind interested in thinking outside the box in order to help solve our Nation's toughest challenges! The right candidate will be excited by the prospect of optimizing or even re-designing architecture and analysis products to support our next generation systems and data initiatives.

As a Data Engineer you will…

  • Create data tools for analytics and data scientist team members that assist them in building and optimizing analysis products.
  • Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in our analysis systems.
  • Expand and optimize our data and data pipeline architecture along with leading development activities.
  • Support the data, visualization and software needs of multiple teams, systems and products.
  • Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of complex data from a wide variety of data sources that meet the next generation analysis requirements.
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
  • Work with stakeholders including the JHU/APL leadership, sponsor leadership, and analysis teams to assist with data-related technical issues, support data infrastructure needs, and develop innovative solutions.
 
Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications if you have…

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Software Engineering or other relevant technical field.
  • Demonstrated experience in a Data Engineer or Data Scientist role.
  • Experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python, Java, C++, etc.
  • Experience consolidating, cleaning, and analyzing datasets via the R Programming language, Python, or Julia
  • A successful history of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large disconnected datasets.
  • Experience developing database driven applications. Strong skills with SQL Server.
  • Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills. Experience with Agile methods
  • Demonstrated success working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Exposure to modeling, statistics and database design.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Are able to obtain Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
  • Can demonstrate that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. You will go above and beyond if you have…

  • A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems or other relevant quantitative field.
  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
  • Experience with Javascript
  • Experience with Linux operating systems.
  • Familiarity with the R Shiny package, as well as Shiny Server.
  • Experience leading teams and projects using agile methods and collaboration tools such as GitHub, Jira, and Confluence.
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • A Top Secret security clearance.
