The Laboratory Director supervises all activities within the laboratory including department operations to meet laboratory service needs of Brookwood Baptist Medical Center and Freestanding ER.
Responsibilities:- Implements operational and technical policies and procedures for resource utilization, financial performance, service standards, and compliance to regulatory and accrediting agency requirements at laboratory site of responsibility.
- Provides input on operational goals.
- Directs cost effective utilization of resources, including personnel and supply inventory, to meet or exceed financial critical success factors.
- Reviews customer service and financial budgetary constraints.
- Oversees Point-of-Care testing program to ensure compliance.
- Practices personnel management according to Orlando Health Human Resources guidelines, policies and procedures including hiring, counseling, and separation of employees.
- Coaches team members.
- Oversees scheduling.
- Ensures Performance management program is implemented and maintained in a timely manner including coaching plans, competencies, and results sharing.
- Interacts with other Orlando Health Laboratory to ensure consistency in technical, operational, and administrative policies and procedures.
- Adheres to Orlando Health policy, procedures, value statements and Commitment to Excellence standards, Code of Conduct standards and the Compliance Program.
- Manages various personnel functions including hiring, work assignments, coaching plans, and disciplinary actions.
- Able to maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
- Able to maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
- Regularly interacts with Pathologists, Medical staff, laboratory employees, other department managers, and key laboratory customers regarding laboratory services.
- Works with the Purchasing department in the negotiations of vendor contracts and cost containment measures.
- Utilizes process improvement indicator results, benchmark information, customer requirements, and team input to implement quality service and team relationship critical success factors.
- Participates in Process Improvement activities both inter and intra departmentally.
- Practices and oversees safety and infection control practices.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education/Training
Bachelor degree in Clinical Laboratory, Chemical or Biological Science required. Successful completion of a Clinical Laboratory training program. Computer knowledge including Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), Hospital Information Systems (HIS), and personal computers.
Licensure/Certification
Current license as a Supervisor in the specialty/specialties required by the laboratory section in the State of Alabama. Certified by aprofessional laboratory-certifying agency, i.e. by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) or eligible.
Experience
Five years of Clinical Laboratory experience is required, to include 1 year of supervisory experience.
