A Brief Overview

The GME Institutional Director will report directly to the Designated Institutional Official (DIO) and provide strategic oversight, ensure compliance with ACGME and institutional policies, manage the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC), and foster an environment of academic excellence and professional development. This position will also oversee and coordinate Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) activities at Holy Name Medical Center. This is an on-site role requiring a consistent presence at the institution. This leadership role is essential for ensuring the success of our growing GME programs, currently comprising 5-7 residency and fellowship programs, including general surgery, internal medicine, family medicine, and obstetrics and gynecology.

What you will do

  • Strategic Leadership:
    • Collaborate with the DIO to develop and implement a strategic vision for the GME programs aligned with the institution’s mission and goals.
    • Work closely with program directors to ensure continuous improvement and integration of educational and clinical initiatives.
  • UME Coordination:
    • Oversee and coordinate all UME activities, including medical student rotations, clerkships, and educational opportunities.
    • Serve as a liaison between medical schools and Holy Name Medical Center to ensure a seamless experience for students.
    • Develop and implement policies and procedures for UME programs in alignment with institutional standards.
  • Compliance & Accreditation:
    • Ensure all programs comply with ACGME Institutional and Program Requirements.
    • Assist the DIO in liaising with ACGME, preparing for and managing site visits and accreditation activities.
    • Monitor and oversee compliance with resident work hours, evaluations, and other regulatory standards.
  • Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC):
    • Work under the guidance of the DIO to chair or co-chair GMEC meetings as needed.
    • Oversee the GMEC’s operations to ensure compliance with ACGME requirements.
    • Facilitate regular GMEC meetings, ensuring representation from program directors, faculty, and residents.
  • Program Development & Oversight:
    • Support the DIO in the growth and development of new residency and fellowship programs, including obstetrics and gynecology.
    • Collaborate with program directors on curriculum development, faculty education, and resident wellness initiatives.
    • Establish and monitor key performance indicators for all programs.
  • Assist the DIO in overseeing the GME budget, including funding for resident salaries, benefits, and educational resources.
  • Ensure effective use of institutional resources for GME and UME activities.
  • Resident Advocacy & Support:
    • Promote a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion among residents and faculty.
    • Establish support systems for resident wellness and professional development.
  • Faculty Development:
    • Coordinate faculty development programs to enhance teaching, evaluation, and mentoring skills.
  • Partner with clinical and administrative leadership to integrate GME and UME into the institution’s operational and clinical missions.


Education Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or higher in healthcare administration, education, or a related field preferred


Experience Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in GME or academic medicine required
  • Experience managing UME programs and medical student rotations preferred
  • Proven experience managing Graduate Medical Education Committees (GMEC) preferred
