Description

The University Academic Outreach Center serves a unit within the Office of the Provost to develop, implement, and oversee University-wide early academic outreach programs, while helping to coordinate, support, and disseminate the myriad of discipline-focused programs across the University. The overall goal of both University-wide and discipline-focused programs is to support the University of Pittsburgh's efforts to build more equitable pathways for all students to gain the potential to enroll at the University of Pittsburgh or other selective college and universities. Reporting to the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies, the Academic Outreach Center Director's primary role is to lead a team responsible for managing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating the University-wide Academic Outreach programs, supporting the discipline-focused programs, and collaborating on the development of future programs. The work may include but is not limited to growing and/or strengthening the organization's network among high school teachers; recruiting and enabling volunteers; crafting strategies to reach constituents that are currently underrepresented at the University locally, regionally, and nationally, and helping to advance Pitt's mission of building a larger community of diverse scholars for the 21st Century. Candidate will build and/or strengthen relationships with the already existing or new outreach programs at the University who are communicating across the same audiences. Examples of some of our University-wide programs include the Pittsburgh Admissions Collaborations, the Pittsburgh Public Scholars program, and a reimagining of Investing Now as a STEM-wide initiative. Candidate should have demonstrated facilitation and communication skills and ability to work with individuals of all levels and organizations to develop and accomplish shared goals. Creative problem solving and negotiation skills that reduce barriers while balancing sponsor and University priorities and ensuring compliance with applicable policies and regulations are essential.
