Director, State & Local Government Relations
The Director, State & Local Government Relations will report to the Associate General Counsel for Public Policy and represent and advance GEA’s government relations agenda to state and local elected officials.
What you will Do
+ Assess state and local political and public policy environment, determine where legislative and regulatory action is advisable and where it is not, and develop, implement and execute a legislative and regulatory strategic plan, in coordination with the Associate GC. Public Policy to support GEA's state and local policy agenda.
+ Work closely with Government Relations, Regulatory and Legal team colleagues, Communications and business leaders to identify state and local policy priorities; develop, write and deliver GEA business priorities and issue positions in clear messaging to state and local governments.
+ Identify and manage outside legislative consultants and trade association memberships to advance GEA's legislative and regulatory agenda before state and local governments.
+ Work closely with GEA’s Government Relations staff in D.C. to assure that GEA’s government relations agenda is comprehensive in representing and advancing GEA’s interests at the national, state and local levels.
+ Successfully leverage company social responsibility and other public relations initiatives with elected officials to help support and strengthen GEA's reputation.
+ Promote GEA's interests at select national organization meetings of state and local officials to further both issue agendas and relationship building.
+ Identify and recommend for approval GEAPAC contributions to state and local officials.
+ Manage state and local government relations budget to maximize support to advance state and local agenda.
What you need to Succeed
+ The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program in a field of study related to the job.
+ 10+ years of similar or related experience in a multi-state government affairs environment.
+ Strong interpersonal skills and ability to advise GEA personnel
+ Demonstrated ability to create successful partnerships with business leaders
+ Problem solver
+ Collaborates effectively with other legal team members
+ Adaptable, flexible, ability to learn
+ Proven creator and participant in informal issue and project teams.
+ Goal oriented and a high degree of personal initiative.
+ Strong oral and written communication and advocacy skills.
+ The position requires the ability to travel to state legislatures, public events and be present at external engagements primarily in Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, California and Washington, D.C.
+ Experience working with consumer product or manufacturing sector policy issues
+ Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
+ Master’s Degree in Public Policy or other relevant disciplines.
+ The role can be located in one of the following locations: Louisville, KY; Washington, DC; Atlanta, GA
+ Working conditions are normal for an office environment.
+ 25% - 50% travel required for domestic travel
+ Work may require occasional evening or weekend work
