Monarch Joint Venture

Education Coordinator

Support national monarch and pollinator conservation as an Education Coordinator for MJV. Deliver online and in-person education programs, including virtual learning opportunities, outreach events, workshops, and public engagement activities. This position is primarily remote, with some in-person outreach responsibilities throughout Minnesota.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Support national monarch and pollinator conservation as an Education Coordinator for the Monarch Joint Venture, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. This position delivers online and in-person education programs, including virtual learning opportunities, outreach events, workshops, and public engagement activities. The role is well suited to an enthusiastic environmental educator who is comfortable balancing independent remote work with public-facing outreach and teaching responsibilities.

This position is primarily remote, with some in-person outreach responsibilities throughout Minnesota. Preference will be given to candidates located in or near the Twin Cities metro area or Belle Plaine, Minnesota. Some evening and weekend work is required for outreach events, particularly between late spring and early fall. Learn more about the mission, vision, and values of the MJV on our website, here.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Online Education Programming (55%)

This role supports the implementation and facilitation of MJV's online education programming in collaboration with the education team and other program staff. Duties include:

  • Teach online courses (pre-recorded, live, and instructor-supported) through the Monarch NECTAR Hub, MJV's online learning management system.
  • Support the development of course outlines, educational materials, and course evaluations in collaboration with staff and content experts.
  • Create course slides, scripts, recordings, and edited video content.
  • Update previously recorded content on the NECTAR Hub platform.
  • Collaborate with communications staff to promote online courses and webinars.
  • Co-lead MJV's monthly Monarch Conservation Webinar Series.
  • Deliver virtual presentations for schools, partners, and community groups as requested.

Outreach and In-person Education (35%)

This role coordinates and facilitates MJV's in-person outreach and public engagement activities, working closely with staff, partners, and volunteers. Duties include:

  • Co-lead planning and execution of the Minneapolis Monarch Festival alongside partners at the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board.
  • Facilitate approximately 10 in-person outreach events annually (primarily late April through early September).
  • Coordinate outreach event logistics, including educational materials and store merchandise sales.
  • Recruit, coordinate, and support volunteers assisting with outreach events.
  • Teach or co-teach occasional in-person workshops, which may include national travel (0-2 workshops annually).

General Education Programming (10%)

This role also contributes to broader education initiatives and collaborative projects across the organization, such as:

  • Develop educational resources to sell in the MJV store.
  • Update educational materials (e.g. handouts, blogs, curriculum, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience Required

QUALIFICATIONS: Required Demonstrated experience in environmental education, informal education, or related fields. Demonstrated ability to communicate scientific concepts and conservation information to a variety of audiences. Experience supporting online or digital educational programming. Experience with public outreach, presentations, workshops, or event facilitation. Reliable transportation for in-person outreach events in Minnesota. Ability to work independently and effectively in a remote work environment. Valid driver's license. Preferred Content expertise related to monarch butterflies, pollinators, native plants, or conservation. Experience with video editing software and multimedia content creation. Intermediate to advanced Spanish language proficiency. Experience with program evaluation, including development and analysis of pre- and post-program surveys. Volunteer coordination or management experience. Experience using Canva, Google Workspace, Monday.com, or similar platforms. Physical Requirements: Ability to sit for extended periods while performing computer-based work. Ability to use hands and fingers for typing, writing, operating office equipment, and handling outreach materials. Ability to communicate effectively in virtual and in-person settings. Ability to travel to and participate in outreach events, including setting up displays/materials and working outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to maintain focus while managing detailed tasks, virtual programming, and public engagement activities. Ability to perceive and analyze information from computer screens, written documents, and verbal communication. Location: This is a primarily remote position, with in-person activities and events concentrated in Minnesota, including the St. Paul-Minneapolis metropolitan area and Belle Plaine. Candidates must have reliable broadband internet access, a workspace suitable for remote work and virtual meetings, and the ability to travel to in-person events. Start Date: As soon as feasible Travel Required: Yes, throughout Minnesota; national travel may be required 1-2 times/year for in-person workshops WHAT TO EXPECT: Your application will include a resume (1-2 pages max) and a few short-answer questions (no cover letters please). Interviews will be conducted via Zoom in 2-3 stages: A brief (~20-minute) introductory interview with one MJV staff member to discuss your background and interest in the role. A longer (~1-hour) interview with 2-3 staff members. Interview questions will be shared via email 24 hours in advance. Prior to the 2nd interview, candidates will be asked to provide: One example of educational content they have developed. This could be a recorded presentation, webinar, online course content, presentation slides, educational blog post, curriculum, social media content, or similar materials.
