Engineer - MES (Manufacturing Execution System)

As the implementation engineer, the person will be working with the business lead(s), subject matter experts from business and IT, and PSI consultants for the implementation of planning and scheduling systems in a timely way. The person is expected to assist MES (Manufacturing Execution System) Project Manager in managing the implementation of the systems, and be involved hands-on in the technical design, configuration, testing, and rollout. Typical job responsibilities are suggested below: 
  • Get trained in relevant PSI modules (Material & Order Flow Planning, Order Scheduling, Material Order Allocator, Line Schedulers, Factory Model, PSI Integration). 
  • Participate / Be involved hands-on in requirement gathering, technical design, configuration, integration, test plan creation, unit and integration testing, and rollout. Work under the directions of PSI Metals technical lead and MES Solution Architect.
  • Assist in developing and refining business rules.
  • Create and maintain project plan together with MES Project Manager.
  • Maintain issue log and get issues addressed in a timely way. Provide periodic updates to MES Project Manager.
  • Resolve day-to-day issues involving planning and scheduling systems and their interfaces with other internal (MES) and external (SAP, L2, Mainframe) systems.
  • Identify improvement opportunities, recommend solutions and work with business to implement them.
  • Stay abreast of the latest features and functionalities available in PSI solution and keep the business users educated. Exchange ideas and knowledge with other Cleveland Cliffs plants.
Minimum Requirements: 
  • BS in Computer Science / Information Technology / Engineering or equivalent years of experience in programming
  • General understanding of optimization concepts and business processes used in planning and scheduling  
  • Database knowledge and experience of writing simple SQL statements for data verification / troubleshooting or have the ability to learn SQL quickly
  • Basic knowledge of coding in Python or other structured programming language or have the ability to learn this coding quickly
  • Strong analytical ability and interest in systems trouble shooting
  • Mastery of Microsoft tools suite – MS Project, Visio, PowerPoint, Excel, Word
  • Excellent ability to communicate across all levels of the organization
  • Self-motivated individual with the ability to work in a group environment and independently
  • Ability to multitask and perform well under pressure with a sense of urgency
Preferred Requirements: 
  • 5+ years of experience in implementing and/or supporting planning and/or scheduling software solutions in steel industry
  • One full cycle of software solution implementation (requirement gathering, solution design, configuration, testing, and commissioning)
  • Hands-on experience with planning and scheduling systems in manufacturing industry
  • Understanding of steel manufacturing
  • Experience in BI Report development will be a plus
