Duration: 9-10 months

  • Provides quality planning, control, and improvement support for product development teams, manufacturing engineering, supply management, and manufacturing and/or distribution organizations to assure Client product quality meets the customers' expectations. This includes the application of quality tools within the Enterprise Product Delivery Process (EPDP), Enterprise Order Fulfillment Process (EOFP) and Customer Support Process (CSP). Also supports application of quality tools with key suppliers as an integral element of quality planning.

- Participates on PDP (Product Delivery Process) teams as the Quality representative, ensuring quality activities and plans are formulated and followed.
- Engages in applying/leading Quality tools in Product Delivery Process (PDP) teams.
- Encourages early interaction of both customer and supplier input to team activities.
- Participates in Design Process and Assembly Reviews (DPARs), print reviews, and design reviews of new products.
- Monitors and facilitates quality activities for part approval, verifies manufacturing processes (control plans, assembly instructions) and confirms process capability.
- Uses quality tools and practices to establish approval criteria to ensure the identification of quality failure concerns for both internal and external manufactured parts and assemblies. An example is Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA).
- Investigates unit quality related issues and concerns related to product and processes, gathers and analyzes data, resolves/facilitates resolution and implements corrective action.
- Engages in applying/leading Quality tools on Customer Support Process (CSP), Continuous Improvement (CI),and/or Value Improvement (VI) teams.
- Executes Client Quality Control Plan where implemented.
- Investigates product quality problems, determines root cause for quality problems, gathers and analyzes data and implements corrective action to reduce or eliminate non-value waste resulting from non-conformances, scrap or reclaim.
- Assists in identifying, communicating and resolving supplier quality problems.
- Engages in supplier quality plan formulation as necessary.
- Conducts audits of new and existing suppliers to determine manufacturing capability and adherence to accepted quality practices.
- Drives prevention actions.
- Facilitates and writes quality procedures for the purpose of maintaining/updating the factory quality system and supports quality system audits, reviews results with audit team, and participates in management review meetings.
- Provides training and/or supervision to co-workers, inspectors, technicians and auditors on quality procedures and tools to monitor critical processes to assure consistent control and/or to implement cost-saving ideas to improve our products to meet customer expectations.

- Experience with Casting, Machining and Drivetrain commodities
- Experience leading Root Cause Analysis
- Strong team facilitation skills
- Ability to travel domestically, up to 20%

As a Quality Engineer for Client, located in Ottumwa, IA you will support Quality Improvement Team and Early Detection and Problem Resolution activities as required within assigned commodity groups.
In addition, you will:
- Support the factory effort to reduce Field Problem Resolution (FPR) time to less than 20 days for interim solutions and less than 150 days for final corrective actions
- Support and complete warranty reduction projects as a member of assigned commodity teams
- Ensure proper quality planning is executed and provide consistent communication to the other functional groups
- Identify, communicate and facilitate root cause analysis and provide timely permanent corrective action for critical and major supplier issues
- Ensure movement of critical and major NCCAs through D6 in accordance with established target dates
- Lead the implementation of Supplier Change Requests (SCR's)
- Support outsourcing initiatives as required to meet cost reduction goals in alignment with factory action plan
- Conduct audits of new and existing suppliers to determine manufacturing capability and adherence to accepted quality practices and drive prevention actions
- Ensure timely resolution of Quality Hold issues
- Monitor monthly Quality performance metrics including PPM, Impact Points, and initiate corrective action for improvement.

What Skills You Need:
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality, tooling, tool design (High)
- Effective writing skills, including grammatical usage, persuasive copy and style (High)
- Proficiency utilizing computer-based systems for task monitoring, communication and completion (High)
- Experience with drawing and schematic interpretation, product models, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (Medium)
- Experience with standard quality tools such as FMEA (Failure Modes Effect Analysis), SPC (Statistical Process Control), Root Cause Analysis, Statistics (Medium)
- Experience participating or leading internal or supplier auditing (ISO/IATF/JDS-G223) (Medium)

What Makes You Stand Out:
- Experience with quality audits: Specifically JDS-G223 and Process Verification (High)
- 2 or more years of experience exercising the use of quality management principles, tools and processes (High)
- Broad supplier commodity experience (High)
- Knowledge and proficiency in SAP, cProjects and PDMLink(High)
- 1 or more years of demonstrated team leadership and mentoring experience (Medium)
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt (Medium)
- Certification as a JDS-G223 Supplier Quality Lead Auditor (Low)
- ASQ certification(s) (Low)

Education: (or equivalent work experience)
  • Ideally, you will have a degree or equivalent work experience in the following:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology, Science, Agricultural Sciences, Business discipline or equivalent experience.
