Aerojet Rocketdyne, a major aerospace corporation responsible for the design, manufacture and operation of a number of critical US space and defense products, seeks a Manager for a full-time position within the Project Engineering organization.
This position combines management and technical roles to lead and manage engineers located at multiple sites. The job is located at our Huntsville, AL office. The position provides management, mentoring, and technical leadership to the project engineers in support of new business capture, development programs, and production programs.
The Senior Manager of the Aerojet Rocketdyne (AR) Project Engineer group is responsible for providing knowledgeable project engineers to support several Business Units. This includes working with the Aerojet Rocketdyne discipline organization to identify engineers for the project engineering organization as part of development planning and succession planning.
This current opening may be filled at this level or at one level higher.
40% - Responsible for ensuring project engineering teams implement sound engineering practices. This includes management of technical risks, developing and updating Design Development Plans, generating and managing project schedules on programs under this manager. Includes consistent application and improvement plans for project engineers executed processes and tools across all programs under this manager. Represents company and group with internal and external customers; is familiar with Business Development and Program Office internal customers along with corresponding product lines and strategies across company sites.
35% - Work with Program Chief Engineers and Program Management to define project engineer resource needs taking into account staffing risks and opportunities. Assess health of project engineer organization to meet current and future program needs. Establish project engineer development and succession plans and monitor progress.
10% - Plan and manage the overhead budget requirements for the project engineer team and provide input to the financial planning organization. Track and meet all financial goals.
10% - Provide mentorship and coaching to project engineers across organization and develop tools, standard work, and other media to streamline the design and development process. Provides group administration and management; develops and implements short and long-range planning for development and enhancing of group technical capabilities; oversees that group procedures and standard work are maintained; defines discipline related goals, and initiatives; works with group personnel to define and track individual development goals.
5% - Continuously stress health and safety, diversity, and environmental goals and maintain metrics to provide a safe, respectful, and ethical environment for all employees at all times.
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering or related engineering/scientific discipline, and at least nine (9) years of related aerospace and solid propulsion systems analysis and development experience.
Must be a self-starter and proactive mentor to address group and project goals, while performing effective conflict resolution as required. Previous project engineering, solid propulsion and armaments design, and associated development experience, including proposal development are strongly desirable. A demonstrated understanding of DoD/NASA engineering processes, materials, analysis and manufacturing is required. Must possess strong technical writing and effective presentation skills.
Additional Requirements and Preferred Qualifications:
Must be willing and available to travel to multiple Aerojet Rocketdyne sites (~10%).
May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
