Job Title: Environmental Scientist I

RSI is actively seeking a talented and experienced Environmental Scientist with the expertise to support projects in a complex geological environment on the Oak Ridge Reservation. An experienced Environmental Scientist, Geologist or Engineer with a strong CERCLA characterization/remediation background may be particularly suitable for this position. The individual will interface with a multidisciplinary team in the preparation of sampling plans, annual monitoring reports, remedial site evaluations, remedial investigations, and feasibility studies at hazardous waste sites. Experience in waste site characterization and CERCLA regulatory interface is highly desired, with broad experience in determining nature and extent and fate and transport of contamination.


  • Planning, implementation and/or coordination writing CERCLA documents related to investigations, remediation and closure of CERCLA RODs on the Oak Ridge Reservation.
  • Provide technical expertise, support and/or perform environmental projects through all aspects of data collection, management, and interpretation.
  • Provide technical expertise, support and review of geologic and hydrogeologic investigations, geologic and hydrogeologic visualizations, analytical and numerical groundwater flow modeling, and development of conceptual site models at complex sites.
  • Identification, implementation and coordination with a multidisciplinary team responsible for the investigations and remediation of chemicals and radionuclide contamination.
  • Assist with the preparation of technical documents including, but not limited to, work plans, reports, proposals, and cost estimates.
  • Providing technical guidance and direction to the project team and DOE customer.
  • Identification of specialty subcontractors and directing and supporting associated work.


  • Must have at a minimum a Bachelor’s Degree in related earth science/environmental science field from an accredited school or equivalent, and 7-10+ years of experience in the responsibilities detailed.
  • Experience and knowledge of the Oak Ridge Reservation (ORR) and the Department of Energy (DOE) preferred.
  • Experience in identification and implementation of CERCLA Remedial Actions
  • Experience in the development of Data Quality Objectives and Sampling and Analysis Plans.
  • Experience with environmental regulatory requirements including CERCLA regulations and the CERCLA decision-making process.
  • Experience and understanding of groundwater characterization and remediation; monitoring; development of conceptual site models; and groundwater fate and transport modeling.
  • Excellent technical writing skills for environmental consulting applications are required as are outstanding problem solving abilities.
  • Able to complete 40 hour hazwoper training
  • Proven ability to work with a multidisciplinary team
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of EPA CERCLA document guidance
  • Experience in working with Federal Agencies, DOE preferred
  • Experience in working with State and Federal regulators
  • Ability to obtain a Q clearance
  • Self-motivated, requires limited direction
