Position:  Exhibit Technician         
Employment Status:  Full-Time Hourly, non-exempt
Reports to:  Director of Exhibits, Wiess
Department:  Exhibits 
 
Job Summary:
Repair and maintain high-end exhibit components and themed environments.
 
Duties:
  • Fabrication of displays and electrical components to support the functionality of the exhibit. 
  • Construction of industrial panels using typical industrial wiring practices.
  • Proficient in the use of power and hand tools.
  • Willingness to learn other skills as necessary for laminating, trimming, woodworking. 
  • Capability to read and understand shop production drawings. 
  • Demonstrate attention to detail; display an understanding of overall panel design and functionality.
  • Handle multiple tasks and perform work in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with co-workers.
  • Maintain neat and clean work area, complying with procedures rules, and regulations.
  • Effectively communicate with staff and 3rd party vendors to efficiently complete each task given.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications:
  • Have 3 years of experience working in a custom fabrication or a public-facing repair and maintenance environment for interactives.
  • Have experience with the following fields: finish carpentry, plastics, audiovisual, Arduino/ Rasp PI, electrical engineering, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Be self-motivated, professional, and be able to work in a team environment.
  • Have proven, strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
 
Requirements: 
  • Safe operation of shop tools and equipment.
  • Coordinate daily tasks and varying priorities with team lead, subcontractors, and other fabricators.
  • Inspection of all work to make sure it is in compliance with drawings, sketches, the scope of work, and other provided documentation and/or verbal instructions. 
  • Preplan projects to have supplies, materials and tools ready ahead of time. 
  • Keep workspace neat, clean, organized. 
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation for all assigned projects including parts lists, vendor information, where necessary.
  • Must possess the ability to frequently remain in a stationary position, perform a wide range of physical activities that includes moving and positioning self into a variety of areas, work confidently while on ladders, scaffolding, and work on a high lift (certification on high-lo is preferred or on-the-job training will be required).
  • Must be able to work in both confined and public spaces in the museum.
  • Ability to consistently move and position equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must comply with the museum’s COVID-19 and COVID-19 vaccination protocols.
