Financial Counselor

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Billing Supervisor is responsible for all self pay collection activities for the hospital. Works within the hospital credit and collections policies to assist patients and guarantors with resolution of their financial questions and concerns and informs them of available options.

REQUIREMENTS:

• High School Diploma/General Education Degree(GED).
• 2 years of business office experience in a healthcare setting AND
• 1 year of Customer Care/Support experience
• Strong understanding of insurance concepts such as deductible, coinsurance, contractuals, coordination of benefits and reading explanation of benefits. General understanding of Medicare/ Medicaid programs.
• Excellent and persuasive communication skills.
• 10-Key proficiency
• Ability to accurately balance cash drawer on a daily basis.
• Ability to balance compassion and fiscal responsibility.

PREFERRED:

• 3 years of billing experience in a hospital setting. OR
• 3 years of billing medical self pay/collections experience. OR
• Certified Revenue Cycle Specialist (CRCS) from the American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM).
• 3 years of cashier/collections experience in a healthcare setting.
