Schedule (full-time): Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (30-minute lunch break, flexibiltiy required, per procedures/operations)
Summary: We are seeking a Hospital Laboratory Assistant I (HLA) to support the hospital pathology lab and Pathologist at hospital, as needed: HLA will receive specimens, enter patient and specimen information into the laboratory information system, and package the specimens for courier shipments: provide assistance in procedures requiring slide preparations such as rapid assessments or frozen sections: additional support activities include light administrative duties as requested by the pathologist, maintaining pathology laboratory equipment and reagents, and filing of blocks and slides.
You Will:
Review and update the Pathologist schedule each day
Pick up specimens from surgery or other hospital department locations for delivery to pathology
Assess and accession Histology and some Cytology specimens
Data entry and perform accession QA
Digital scan requisition images
LIS reporting
Gross room duties include assisting with frozens, accessioning, receiving specimens, tissue disposal, assisting PAs
Office duties include assisting pathologists, answering phones, slide and block filing, sendouts, accessioning
Handle slides for pathologist review
Assist with hospital procedures, including but not limited to Fine Needle Aspirations, Frozen Section preparations, and Bone Marrow
Maintain equipment & reagent supplies, along with stocking supplies
Assist with tumor board preparation
Provide support services for other departments and pathologists
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education/Certifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Associate or bachelor's degree in laboratory science, preferred.
Skills and Abilities
Laboratory (medical/pathology) experience preferred.
Competency with computers and MS Office programs, a must.
Ability to maintain accuracy, especially with numeric sequencing.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Adhere to HIPAA patient confidentiality standards.
Ability to establish priorities and coordinate work activities.
Ability to work independently and efficiently.
Must have reliable transportation to commute to either Tukwila referance lab or Overlake Hospital
Pay Range: $21.10 - $28.00 USD Hourly
The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Generally, new hire offers will be between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range, depending on experience (DOE), with the ability to grow within the range over time.
