Summary Description:
Under direction, the principal is responsible for administering and supervising the total school program and providing educational leadership for students and staff in alignment with community educational goals. Responsibilities include establishing a positive learning climate, defining roles, planning and coordinating programs, implementing change, and making decisions. Duties may be delegated to assistants for execution. Physical Demands: None. Special Requirements: Willingness to work beyond 40 hours per week and attend evening and weekend meetings as required. Must be able to respond to school needs at any time.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Thorough knowledge of Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) policies, procedures, the Call to Action Plan, the Program of Studies, and relevant laws and regulations.
• Strong understanding of curriculum, instruction, organizational patterns, school operations, and pupil services.
• Proven competence in staff recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation.
• Effective problem-solving skills and ability to perform under stress.
• Ability to motivate and collaborate with staff to ensure high performance and morale.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills.

Education, Training, and Experience:

• Master's degree from an accredited institution with emphasis on supervision, educational administration, and curriculum for elementary or secondary education; Doctorate preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years in teaching, administration, or supervision, including at least 3 years of classroom teaching experience.
• Completion of an administrative internship and/or experience as an assistant principal is desirable.
• Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.
• Certification: Must meet Maryland certification requirements for Administrator II.
