JOB TITLE: General Maintenance Worker I HOUR STATUS: Nonexempt

REPORTS TO: Director of Maintenance PAY GRADE: Aux 2/260 Days

DEPT./SCHOOL: Maintenance DATE REVISED: 05/2026

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Perform skilled and versatile maintenance, repair, and installation work across district facilities and grounds. Ensure that school buildings, classrooms, and equipment remain safe, functional, and well-maintained by applying broad knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical systems, and mechanical repair.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification

Valid Texas driver's license

Must meet CCISD driver guidelines to operate district vehicles

Special Knowledge/Skills

Skilled in safe operation of a wide variety of hand tools, power tools, and small equipment

Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, peers, and campus staff to coordinate projects and minimize disruptions to instruction

Knowledge of and commitment to safety procedures, hazard recognition, and regulatory compliance

Ability to organize, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks with minimal supervision

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Diagnosing and completing general repairs to furniture and equipment while ensuring compliance with district and safety standards.

Respond to work orders efficiently, performing skilled repairs and reporting conditions requiring specialized trades or major renovation.

Operate district vehicles, light trucks, and equipment to transport furniture, materials, and supplies between campuses.

Assist with general maintenance.

Assemble, install, and repair school furniture, playground structures, and building fixtures to maintain safe learning environments.

Assist with Installing, repairing, and replacing doors, windows, hardware, ceiling and flooring materials, and related assemblies.

Maintain a clean and safe work environment by properly using, storing, and caring for tools, equipment, and materials.

Document maintenance activities and communicate project status to supervisors in a timely manner.

EQUIPMENT USED:

Hand and power tools, drills, saws, grinders, welder (gas and arc), concrete mixer, light trucks, small engine repair equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands: Ability to communicate clearly, follow technical instructions, and exercise sound judgment when prioritizing tasks.

Capacity to work independently on routine repairs and as part of a team on larger projects.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Frequent walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting (up to 50 lbs).

Exposure to varying temperatures, dust, fumes, and noise; work performed both indoors and outdoors

Work occasionally performed at heights and around moving vehicles or machinery
