Entry Level Geologist-Los Angeles
SW SHANNON WILSON
BS degree in Geology with emphasis in engineering geology, or MS degree in Geology supported by a BS degree in Geology or Civil Engineering .
0 to 6 years of experience as a Geologist, including exploration, soil sampling and lab testing.
Have taken or are prepared to take PG exam.
Experienced individuals should have a Geologist-in-Training Certificate and be on track to obtain Professional Geologist (PG) License.
Experience in geologic interpretation using soil and rock samples retrieved from explorations, soil classifications, and knowledge of southern California geology.
Experience with application to geotechnical engineering practice (rock mechanics experience a plus) and observation of earthwork, pile/shaft foundation and retaining structure construction a plus.
Experienced individuals have worked with one or more of the following drilling techniques: hollow stem auger, mud-rotary, bucket auger, HQ rock coring, or sonic.
Work experience (or coursework ) in one or more of the following areas: field mapping, soil mechanics, slope stability, landslide remediation, geomorphology, Quaternary geology, rock mechanics, structural geology, geophysics.
Field/construction observation experience (preferred) should include one or more of the following areas: logging geotechnical explorations, observation of pile construction, observations of earthwork grading activities, installation and recording of geotechnical instrumentation, field reconnaissance, and groundwater well installation.
Ability to use a Brunton compass.
Typically, depending on an applicants education, experience, other qualifications they possess, if they are a fit for the company and local office culture, and the current business needs, an Entry-Level Geologist typically would be placed at a Shannon & Wilson Professional I, II, III, or IV level.
