We are recruiting for a Head of Legal Operations. This is an excellent opportunity for a talented Leader with extensive experience with large scale transformations and Legal Operations to collaborate across all functional areas within MRAS Legal Departments to enable the efficient and effective delivery of legal services to the business. Head of Legal Operations is a critical senior leader who will bring leadership, knowledge and experience necessary to drive peak operational performance. This individual will be responsible for the strategic planning and execution of all Legal Department operations in the U.S. As the first person in this role, they will play a critical role in improving the performance and efficiency of the legal department.

This position will lead, oversee and manage all non-legal operational aspects of the Legal group, including financial management and budgeting, information technology support coordination, contract management, outside counsel/vendor management, training on legal policies, departmental communications, project management support and general administrative support. While at the same time, managing and working with key stakeholders to execute successfully on designing and implementing a shared service Legal and Compliance function across Company 's U.S. P&C operations.

Purpose:

The Head of Legal Operations will report directly to the Chief Legal Officer for Company US P&C Operations. In this role, you will be expected to provide entrepreneurial and innovative thought leadership to the Chief Legal Office to deliver best in class support across the Legal function. You will also develop and execute departmental, strategic initiatives to further enhance client service and delivery, enabling technologies, team development as well as efficiencies of these functions in a coordinated approach.

Business Planning, Budget, Financial Controls:

  • Work alongside the Legal Leadership Team to oversee, develop and manage the department's annual strategic plan, manage and facilitate pan development, communication, reporting and ongoing measurement against objectives.
  • Translate the Legal strategy into specific initiatives and activities for implementation; create and manage annual, quarterly and initiative-specific project plans.

Operational Planning and Execution:

  • Lead, develop, and promote the Legal Department 's mission, and develop and execute on the department 's short and long-term operations plan.
  • Utilize creative thinking to identify and develop cutting-edge strategies for increasing value and reducing outside legal spend, while maintaining excellent legal support and optimizing engagement practices with our law firms.
  • Manage other plans or strategic initiatives to make the legal department more efficient, as delegated by the CLO.

Outside Counsel and Legal Vendor Management:

  • Lead the law firm and third-party vendor management programs with the aim of reducing spend, maximizing value, and improving predictability, all while improving the quality of outside legal representation.

Qualifications

  • 10 years post-graduate experience, primarily in legal department, law firm or business management/strategic operations.
  • Minimum of 3 years of legal department, law firm and/or program/project management experience, working with senior legal executives (or similar senior executives) to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the department and to execute complex projects or initiatives.
  • Proven ability to efficiently and effectively manage the operations of the Legal Department, including executing change management initiatives.
  • Minimum of 3 years in budget control and planning.
  • Exceptional communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills and ability o express ideas effectively in individual and group situations.
  • Exceptional management, prioritization and organizational skills.
  • Experience reporting to and effectively interacting with senior leadership.
  • Understanding of basic principles of Finance, Accounting and Management with excellent analytical capabilities to support financial planning and budget management.
  • Demonstrate leadership, teamwork and collaboration in professional setting; respect for all levels of employees.
  • Strong relationship management skills and ability to manage external service providers.
  • Technological aptitude and ability to learn new technologies or systems; experience with ERP systems (e.g. SAP) and legal matter management systems (e.g. Serengeti) a plus.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite of products
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
