Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Site Leader to provide hands-on leadership and technical expertise supporting the implementation, sustainability, and continuous improvement of site health and safety programs at a unionized industrial manufacturing facility in Connecticut.
This role partners closely with union leadership, plant management, and corporate stakeholders to drive a strong safety culture, ensure regulatory compliance, and support environmentally sustainable and safe operations. This is a hands-on, site-based role located in Hartford, CT.
Essential Functions
Develop and implement H&S programs, communications, and initiatives to drive safe behaviors and best practices
Provide guidance and support to production and maintenance teams on occupational health and safety matters
Serve as the primary site contact for regulatory agencies (OSHA, state environmental agencies, etc.)
Conduct regular site audits and inspections to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
Partner with operations and maintenance leadership to develop and implement site-specific policies, procedures, and training programs aligned with corporate standards
Track, calculate, and report H&S leading and lagging indicators
Maintain required H&S recordkeeping and documentation
Anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control occupational health hazards, including industrial hygiene concerns
Lead and support incident investigations, including root cause analysis, and ensure corrective actions are implemented
Support safety evaluations for new equipment, projects, and processes; participate in process safety reviews
Provide leadership for the site emergency response team and emergency preparedness activities
Lead and support site safety committee meetings and initiatives
Develop and deliver H&S training for compliance and continuous improvement
Collaborate with site and corporate leadership to develop and execute annual H&S strategies and events
Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental or Safety Engineering, or a closely related field
Minimum 5 years of EHS leadership experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment
Minimum 3 years of training and management experience (plant or department level)
Previous experience working in a unionized environment required
Experience leading internal investigations, including root cause analysis, SIF and PSIF investigations
Demonstrated success implementing EHS programs and training curricula
Strong knowledge of occupational health, safety, and industrial hygiene principles
Working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations
Strong project management skills
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization, from the plant floor to senior leadership
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required
