The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences has an exciting opportunity for an Information Security Specialist.

 

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Information and Marketing Technology, the successful candidate will be a crucial member of The College technology team, leading efforts to ensure our units remain secure and comply with university information security policy.

 

Salary Range

$52,600 - $75,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties

  • Work with the Arizona State University (ASU) University Technology Office (UTO) IT Risk Management team to ensure awareness of and compliance with security policy across all units in The College. Participate in workflow pilots and provide feedback for security review processes and initiatives.
  • Review, update and maintain an accurate inventory of The College's assets in ASU's Configuration Management Database (CMDB).
  • Provide end-to-end management of The College's vulnerabilities within ASU's ServiceNow instance.
  • Review vulnerability reports and work with unit personnel, end-point administrators and other technology team members to facilitate timely and thorough remediations.
  • Participate in college and university committees, providing feedback and translating between academic and technical environments.
  • Provide highly effective and professional communications to The College community on a routine and as-needed basis.
  • Lead workshops and training to address questions, concerns and educate end-users about ASU information security best practices.
  • Manage the security review process within The College:
  • Work with vendors to gather necessary technical information.
  • Work with UTO to ensure security reviews proceed in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Guide personnel within The College through the security review process.
  • Interpret and create network diagrams as needed.
  • Serve as the Department Technology Security Reviewer (DTSR), working with the Sr. Director of Information and Marketing Technology to ensure policy compliance and risk awareness (and acceptance, as needed).
  • Collaborate with various teams within The College to expedite security-related tasks required for licensing and purchasing specialized software or hardware.
  • Assist with creating, updating and maintaining a security-specific section of The College technology website.
  • Proactively understand, explain and promote information security best practices across a wide range of technologies.
  • Perform other duties as directed.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field AND two years’ experience in information technology; OR Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced, higher education environment.
  • Evidence of interpersonal skills and the ability to work productively with diverse teams possessing varying degrees of technical experience.
  • Demonstrated interest in information security policies and practice.
  • Experience communicating clearly and professionally with all levels of employees and personnel (i.e., administration, faculty, staff, students and vendors) within a diverse environment.
  • Evidence of autonomy and self-direction in day-to-day operations and projects.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of security fundamentals in various operating systems and environments (e.g., servers, laptops, desktops, applications, IoT and mobile devices.)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of application security risks (e.g., OWASP Top Ten).
  • Experience using project management and ticketing tools to facilitate organized and efficient workflows.
  • Experience using ServiceNow.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience using collaborative communications and productivity tools (e.g., Zoom, Slack, Google Enterprise Apps, project management tools).
  • Evidence of security-related training or certifications.
  • Experience in maintaining focus while effectively prioritizing within an ever-changing environment.

 

Working Environment

Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking. Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop computer; bending, stooping, reaching and lifting up to 20 pounds. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
