Description
Under the direction of the assigned administrator, perform a variety of technical support duties involved in the selection, acquisition, maintenance and distribution of instructional materials; oversee and train library/textbook staff for use of library/textbook software; provide general, reference to staff. Perform clerical work of above-average difficulty which requires the application of library skills.
Examples of Duties
Primary contact for purchasing course material.
Perform a variety of technical support duties involved in the selection, acquisition, maintenance and distribution of instructional materials.
Maintains inventory of District instructional material warehouse stock.
Catalogues new book titles, add books, patrons and teachers to database for inventory and circulation purposes; organize instructional materials located in the warehouse; distribute stock to school sites as needed.
Provide general and reference assistance to staff; resolve problems related to vendor orders, deliveries and returns of instructional materials; compile information and prepare instructional support materials; respond to inquiries and provide information.
Perform general clerical work such as typing, duplicating and entering information into an assigned computer system; generate computerized reports; answer phone calls and respond to phone inquiries; establish and maintain filing systems; including requisitions, purchase orders, shipping documents, budget transfer forms, lost or damaged receipts and inventory.
Based on need and inventory, initiates purchase requisitions of instructional materials for school sites and warehouse stock, checks and receives instructional materials from vendors and returns damaged materials.
Prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports related to, inventory, overdue and lost materials and purchase requisitions.
Receive and account for various monies and fees for lost or damaged materials and book buyback; prepare receipts, deposits and maintain related records; maintain budgetary records.
Communicate with District personnel and outside agencies to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns related to materials.
Researches and creates educational instructional support materials that are sent to all schools for distribution to staff.
Visit libraries to; provide training and support to all school sites in the area of library automation. Coordinates and schedules periodic meetings for library and textbook staff.
Coordinates the discarding of obsolete instructional materials and the book buyback process.
Maintain confidentiality of information and records.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school and minimum of one year experience working in a library.
Examination Information
Qualifying Exam: (REQUIRED FOR ALL QUALIFIED APPLICANTS) .

Positions in this job classification typically work 40 hours/week for 220 work days/year.
OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
The duration of the eligibility list is 6 months unless extended by the Executive Director of Classified Human Resources and the Personnel Commission.

Hayward Unified School District does not pay for employee health and welfare benefits.
Full-time employees are required to purchase medical health benefits. Half-time and less than half-time employees may participate on a voluntary basis. Health benefit costs are 100% employee paid through a pre-tax payroll deduction. Employees may opt out of health coverage upon presentation of proof of alternate coverage.
Dental coverage is mandatory for all employees working 20 hours per week, or more, regardless of outside coverage. Less than half-time employees may participate on a voluntary basis. The District contributes the full premium for "employee only". Any additional premium will be employee paid.

Health & Welfare Benefits
Hayward Unified School District will provide a contribution of up to $2,500 per year to be used towards a District healthcare plan or cash in lieu of up to $1,350 per year. Full-time employees are required to purchase medical health benefits unless proof of alternate coverage is provided. Half-time and less than half-time employees may participate on a voluntary basis. The balance of health benefit costs are paid through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
Dental coverage is provided free of charge for all employees working 20 hours per week, or more. Family coverage is available and any additional premium will be employee paid.
Classified employees must participate in the CalPERS Retirement program.
All employees are enrolled in an Employee Assistant Program (EAP).
The District also offers various optional benefits including life insurance, short term disability, and a medical and dependent care flexible spending option.
Vacation
Following the completion of six (6) months of probationary service, employees will receive credit for five (5) working days of vacation. Every month thereafter, employees will accrue vacation at a rate of 5/6 of a working days (2 weeks per year).
Annual employees accrue vacation hours to be taken off at a later date. School year employees earn and are paid out vacation hours.
