Position Summary

Reporting Authority: Divisional Chair

The Aviation Manufacturing Technology Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction and training in alignment with the policies and standards of the Alabama Community College System and Bishop State Community College. The instructor will support student success, workforce readiness, and industry engagement through effective teaching, curriculum development, and program management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Instruction & Curriculum

  • Teach 15-18 credit hours per semester or equivalent instructional load.
  • Develop and deliver curriculum aligned with industry standards and program objectives.
  • Utilize effective instructional methods and technologies to enhance student learning· .
  • Prepare and maintain course syllabi, instructional materials, and student learning outcomes.
  • Evaluate student performance and maintain accurate academic records.
  • Must remain current with NC3 certifications relevant to their teaching discipline.
  • Ongoing professional development may require additional industry certifications to stay current with industry and programmatic needs.

Program & Student Support

  • Advise and recruit students from enrollment through program completion.
  • Coordinate work-based learning opportunities and track student progress.
  • Assist with job placement efforts for program graduates.
  • Maintain scheduled office hours and provide academic support.

Program Management & Compliance

  • Maintain instructional labs and equipment in accordance with safety and industry standards.
  • Oversee classroom and lab environments, ensuring proper supervision and housekeeping.
  • Prepare and manage program budgets.
  • Recommend and procure instructional equipment, tools, and materials.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional, state, and accreditation requirements (e.g., SACSCOC).

Collaboration & Engagement

  • Collaborate with faculty, adjunct instructors, and administrators on curriculum and program development.
  • Maintain active engagement with business and industry partners.
  • Organize and facilitate advisory committee meetings and maintain documentation.
  • Participate in institutional committees and professional development activities.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Teach in various formats (day, evening, weekend, online, hybrid).
  • Support student organizations as an advisor or sponsor.
  • Work with ADA services to ensure appropriate student accommodations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of aviation manufacturing principles and practices
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, email, Canvas LMS, and Banner
  • Ability to engage effectively with students, faculty, staff, and the public
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and credential attainment
  • Ability to travel as required

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree from an accredited institution and a minimum of three (3) years of full time industry experience in a manufacturing-related field;

OR

High School diploma with a minimum of six (6) years of documented, full-time experience as a practitioner in aviation manufacturing or closely related

field. The successful candidate is expected to complete an associate degree from a regionally accredited institution within three (3) years of the original hire date as a condition of continued employment.

  • Documentation of an industry-recognized credential (earned or in progress) must be included in the application.

  • Demonstrated experience in aviation manufacturing or a closely related field, including:

  • Safety procedures

  • Use of hand and power tools

  • Sheet metal assembly

  • Layout techniques and precision measurement

  • Drilling and riveting

  • Electrical assembly/termination and testing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary teaching experience
  • NC3 Certified Instructor credential

Salary: ACCS Salary Schedule: D1

  • This is a 9-month position. Summer teaching opportunities may be available based on enrollment and institutional need.
  • Salary placement is based on the Alabama Community College System (ACCS) Salary Schedule (Dl), commensurate with qualifications and experience.
  • 9-Month Salary Range: $42,108 - $94,363 (based on education and experience)
  • Summer Term (Optional 3-Month Contract): $13,001 - $29,184 (based on enrollment and qualifications)

Sick Leave

All regular full-time instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is equivalent to 7 hours per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. Retirement

The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA. Tuition Assistance

This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy. The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education. An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.
