Purpose of Position

The Equestrian Instructor provides instruction and guidance to clients pertaining to the proper way to interact with, groom, care for and ride horses. This position reports to the Ranch Manager. 

Major Duties (*Essential Element) 

  • Provide detailed equestrian instruction and processing to clients  
  • Adhere to the Mission, Model of Care, program policies and procedures  
  • Display professionalism in work, dress, knowledge, demeanor, ownership, and initiative  
  • Ownership of area of responsibility; become an expert and create the best, safest, efficient, productive ranch and have a vision for next steps  
  • Create an exceptional client experience; safe, efficient, productive, and fun  
  • Perform and execute a variety of therapeutic riding techniques  
  • Assist with the care of animals  
  • Maintain daily activity logs  
  • Other duties as assigned for the betterment of Great Circle

Required Education and Experience

  • High School or Equivalent  
  • One (1) to three (3) years’ experience working with horses and equestrian programs 

Preferred Education and Experience  

  • Experience working with therapeutic equestrian programs 
  • Experience working with at-risk youth 
  • Extensive barn work and/or rodeo experience  
  • Working with children and families in a trauma informed environment 


  • Minimum 21 years of age  
  • Physically and emotionally capable of working with children with emotional and behavioral needs  
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English  
  • Possess a current, valid driver’s license and meet the Great Circle requirements for insurance
  • Follow-through on goals, plans and tasks 

Working Conditions

Ranch/wilderness environment.Exposure to dust, elements, animals, grass, weeds, trees and those items associated with a ranch

Physical Demands

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.The person must constantly stand, walk use hands to handle or feel, climb or balance, stoop, kneel or crawl, talk, hear, as well as lift up to 50 pounds.Frequently this position will sit and lift up to 100 pounds.Occasionally need to taste and smell as well as lift over 100 pounds.Working with equipment typically associated with horses.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
