Litigation Support IT Specialist
The Litigation Support IT Specialist is a senior level position in the firm's Information department. The Litigation Support IT Specialist will report to the Associate Director, Operations and Infrastructure, of IT, and will support the firm - in particular, the Office of the General Counsel ("OGC") - in all aspects of preserving, searching for, identifying, collecting, harvesting, and producing electronic records and other electronically-stored information ("ESI") in connection with litigation, subpoenas, internal investigations, and responses to other forms of legal process (often referred to, generically, as "e-discovery"). The Litigation Support IT Specialist will also have a dotted line reporting relationship with the firm's Deputy General Counsel.
Essential Functions:
Working with appropriate stakeholders, principally lawyers and the paralegal in OGC, as well as individual ESI custodians:
  • Develop and implement procedures/protocols to ensure consistency and effectiveness in preservation of ESI in response to litigation holds and other preservation requests;
  • Review and analyze preservation and discovery requests to identify and locate categories of responsive ESI;
  • Coordinate with and interview ESI custodians to determine the locations, format, and volume of relevant ESI;
  • Conduct the preservation and secure storage of ESI, including forensic images and active-file archives;
  • Develop chain-of-custody and record-keeping procedures/protocols;
  • Support all aspects of e-discovery, including the collection, harvesting, processing, review, analysis, and production of ESI;
  • Assist other IS&T personnel with computer forensic investigation and analysis (for example, in connection with possible data security incidents);
  • Work with outside counsel and external litigation-support vendors, as needed;
  • Provide other litigation support, as needed;
  • Stay current on the latest e-discovery and computer forensics trends and technology; and
  • Manage multiple projects at once, often with short deadlines.
Qualifications & Technical Skills:
  • Bachelor's Degree required;
  • 5-10 years of experience supporting e-discovery, either in a large law firm or in-house legal department;
  • A deep understanding of network architectures and protocols, computer hardware and software, operating and file systems (e.g., Windows, Linux, Unix, OSX, AFS), mail programs (e.g., Outlook, Apple Mail, Eudora), databases, and backup/archiving systems;
  • Experience working with forensic collection tools such as EnCase and FTK;
  • Ability to perform required duties within a highly decentralized IT infrastructure;
  • Ability to interact effectively with a diverse population of faculty and staff (and potentially students) with varying levels of computer sophistication and experience with litigation and e-discovery;
  • Ability to think strategically about conducting e-discovery efforts in ways that both adequately protect the Institute's legal interests and are efficient and cost-effective;
  • Excellent communication skills; and
  • Certifications in ENCE, CFCE, ACE, CISSP, and/or SCERS, preferred.
