Job Title: Maintenance Technician
Department: Physical Plant
Reports To: Director of Facilities
Position Summary:
The Maintenance Technician ensures the physical integrity, safety, and functionality of college facilities, including academic buildings, residence halls, athletic facilities, etc. This position requires high-level customer service, working with students, faculty, staff, and administrators. Reporting to the Director of Facilities, the Maintenance Technician contributes to the Colleges mission, vision, and values by working both individually and as part of a team to complete maintenance projects and work orders and perform routine repairs and extensive preventive maintenance. This position supports other maintenance positions, assisting with grounds and snow removal, special event set-ups, etc. Work is expected to be prioritized and completed in a timely and quality manner and within budget constraints.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform interior and exterior general maintenance and repairs, including carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work.
- Conduct preventative maintenance and inspections of life safety systems, HVAC support tasks, and campus facilities to identify and address issues proactively.
- Ensure safety and regulatory compliance by following OSHA and other safety standards and assisting with training staff on proper procedures.
- Manage maintenance requests by ordering parts, completing work orders, and documentation, maintaining inventory, and coordinating with contractors and vendors.
- Support special campus needs, such as event setup, furniture moving, athletics support, grounds maintenance, snow removal, overtime, and emergency response.
- Use tools safely and efficiently, communicate equipment and improvement needs to leadership, and contribute to improved customer service and operational efficiency.
- Participate in staff meetings, maintain confidentiality, complete required training and certifications, follow all college policies, report incidents, and supervise or train student employees as needed.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of high school diploma.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in a related position. Three (3) to five (5) years experience is preferred.
- Must have a general understanding of the major responsibilities of the position.
- Ability to work well individually and as part of a team and communicate and resolve issues tactfully and respectfully.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey and understand tasks, directives, etc.
- Ability to work unsupervised as needed and make independent decisions within the scope of the position.
- Basic knowledge of computers, use of email, web-based applications, and internet search tools.
- Must have and maintain a valid drivers license.
- Ability to respond to campus for after-hours emergencies, work extended hours or overtime, and different shifts as needed.
