The Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) is accepting applications for the position of Marine Technician I, II, or III (depending on experience) in support of oceanographic research and communications technology aboard the research vessel, R/V Point Sur.  R/V Point Sur is a medium-sized (136ft long) vessel, designated as a regional class vessel that operates primarily in the Gulf of Mexico but does occasionally operates in the Atlantic and Caribbean. 
The Marine Technician will report to the Technical Services Manager, and works closely with the captain, crew, and science party of the research vessel while onboard the ship. The Marine Technician is the primary liaison between the science parties that work on board R/V Pelican and the vessel’s crew to ensure successful completion of scientific missions. The candidate must have good interpersonal skills and be willing to work as a part of a team to meet the research and education mission of LUMCON. This position will be primarily based at R/V Point Sur’s home port in Gulfport, MS. The position will also require periodic travel to the  LUMCON Marine Center (, located at 8124 Louisiana Highway 56, Chauvin, LA and is approximately 80 miles SW of New Orleans.  This position may also periodically require travel to and from other port depends on the vessel’s schedule and necessities of port calls. The position is full-time with State of Louisiana benefits.  Onboard time away from the dock accrues 1.5 times overtime as well as sea-pay.
