Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer 
Location: Richmond, VA
Duration: 12 Months

Working Hours:

  • 8am - 5pm, Monday - Friday

Job Description Summary:

  • Active contributor to service engineering activities such as outage planning and execution.
  • Provide technical guidance to field engineers and customers.
  • Technical lead for complex repairs at sites or shops.
  • Conduct root cause analysis on product and process issues.
  • Design steam turbine components and provide technical support to parts engineering and sourcing teams.
  • Partner with rotating equipment steam turbine design engineering teams globally.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical guidance to field engineers and service managers during outage planning and execution.
  • Lead service center complex repairs on rotors, diaphragms, casings, valves, etc.
  • Be the single point of contact and technical interface for complex repairs projects with various teams.
  • Responsible for meeting project on-time engineering deliverables and technical requirements.
  • Establish yourself as Project Engineering Manager for steam turbine projects in execution.
  • Participate in lean methodologies to ensure robust daily management and continuous improvement.
  • Provide inspection and test plans for site assembly/disassembly and service center repair scope.
  • Lead and participate in product qualification processes and design reviews.
  • Provide technical recommendations and guidance during the outage planning phase.
  • Provide technical guidance to parts engineering and sourcing teams for product design form, fit, and function.
  • Support implementation of corrective/preventative actions through RCA.
  • Collaborate with sales/service directors and other teams to provide technical direction and guidance.
  • Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience and may lead small projects.
  • Domestic travel to visit customer sites, 5 - 10%.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in steam turbine service engineering.
  • Minimum of 2 years of field execution experience, preferably within the power generation industry.
  • Catia CAD drafting experience is a bonus.

  • Established project management skills.
  • Good understanding of steam turbine and balance of plant systems and operations.
  • Experience with steam turbine rotating and stationary components inspection methods and repairs.
  • Exposure to steam turbine disassembly, assembly, startups, and operations.
  • Respectful, receptive, agile, and eager to learn.
