The Mechanical Designer is responsible for developing conceptual designs, reviewing engineering drawings, and supporting the engineering team throughout project execution. This role creates project-specific designs for manufacturing by both internal and external production teams while helping maintain efficient workflow processes. This role collaborates closely with Project Managers and Engineers, both onsite and remotely, to develop design concepts and engineering documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review project requirements and design information to ensure sufficient detail and feasibility for successful project execution.
  • Prepare engineering drawings, layouts, and calculations using Pro/E Creo (version 5 or later).
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and Engineers to define project scope, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Develop drawings using client-specific CAD templates, standard company templates, or by modifying existing CAD files.
  • Analyze reports, maps, drawings, specifications, test data, and related information to support project planning and design.
  • Complete and revise drawings in accordance with project scope, company standards, and quality review procedures.
  • Review drawings created by other drafters to ensure compliance with drafting standards and project requirements.
  • Assist Project Managers with project scopes, estimates, and related documentation.
  • Support additional design and engineering activities as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Associate degree in Drafting, CAD Technology, or related field with 3–5 years of relevant experience; OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience, including at least 8 years of demonstrated experience in a mechanical engineering environment in lieu of a degree.
  • Strong working knowledge of Pro/E Creo (version 5 or later) is required.
  • Experience with Creo Sheetmetal is preferred.
  • Prior experience in engineering design and ASME pressure vessel manufacturing is a plus.

Certifications

  • Candidates must successfully complete a Pro/E Creo performance assessment.

Skills & Competencies

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Pro/E Creo.
  • Understanding of design techniques, drafting standards, and technical drawing development.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles, manufacturing processes, and mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with machines, tools, and equipment design and maintenance.
  • Strong mathematical aptitude, including algebra, geometry, calculus, and statistics.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Physical Requirements

This role may require standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, lifting, and repetitive motion activities.

  • Ability to perform detailed work requiring concentrated visual and mental attention.
  • Light physical work, including lifting up to 10 pounds occasionally.
  • Primarily office and desk-based work environment.
