Our Federal Buildings sector group is seeking qualified candidates to support our growing practice. Come join Stantec, a Top 10 global design firm in our Federal Buildings practice that provides Architecture, Buildings Engineering, Urban, and interior Design services.
Your Opportunity
The mechanical project lead draws on strong buildings engineering knowledge and industry experience to consistently produce project deliverables that meet project requirements and client expectations. Work consists of advanced mechanical design for the built environment including HVAC, piping and plumbing, and the use of digital practice technology such as Revit.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Design mechanical systems for the built environment with limited direction from the Project principal-in-charge.
- Collaborate with project managers and supporting design staff as part of a coordinated design team.
- Support project requirements including basis-of-design narratives, cost estimates, drawing documentation, systems design, and technical specifications.
- Research, prepare, and present mechanical system options and communicate associated impacts to project goals.
- Prepare required calculations to meet project requirements.
- Ensure timely delivery of design and document preparation while meeting required codes and quality assurance standards.
- Resolve design conflicts and provide recommendations to add value.
- Perform field investigations and analyze existing conditions to develop engineering solutions.
- Assist with system studies such as Energy Life Cycle Cost Analysis.
- Participate in the development of design staff through mentorship and training.
- Delegate work to design and production support staff.
- Review drawings and research code issues to comply with regulations.
- Attend project design coordination meetings with other disciplines and stakeholders.
- Communicate with manufacturers and contractors to address challenges and develop practical designs.
- Create and edit technical specifications.
- Interpret energy modeling results and assess impacts on proposed systems.
- Work within project budgets and schedules to help meet financial and schedule goals.
- Provide construction administration support including reviewing contractor RFIs, issuing field directives, and performing construction observation.
- Collaborate with practice and market leaders to disseminate technical knowledge.
- Maintain and expand knowledge of technologies and trends applicable to project types.
- Participate in meetings and initiatives that support studio and firm-wide goals.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Deep knowledge of buildings mechanical engineering, including HVAC, piping, plumbing, and controls.
- Ability to prepare and review detailed drawings with minimal supervision.
- Ability to integrate design elements with other disciplines to deliver coordinated designs.
- Strong knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
- Ability to apply sustainable design principles within projects.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Building Information Modeling software, particularly Revit and AutoCAD.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred. Licensed Professional Engineer is preferred. Minimum of 8 years of related professional experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Auxiliary Qualifications
Familiarity with sustainable design principles, LEED Green Associate or LEED AP, WELL certification.
