Incumbent will routinely perform a variety of tasks such as specimen collection, processing and testing. Responsible for the day to day operation of the laboratory services. This includes basic clerical duties, accessing patient orders, and specimen collection and processing for testing both within the laboratory and those referred to other laboratories. Responsible for ancillary test systems assigned to the clinic. Responsible for knowing how to perform the test, how to properly maintain the instrument, assure quality control is acceptable prior to reporting patient results, identifying potential interfering factors, reviewing patient results for acceptability, identifying significant/critical results requiring follow up and insuring proficiency testing is performed and submitted on time. Follow procedures for patient identification, sample procurement, and specimen labeling Perform routine venipuncture specimen collections from patients Follow laboratory procedures for collecting specimens in the appropriate container Control the physical condition of samples and responds to time factors to ensure that the physiologic state of the specimen is maintained Provide education to patients for proper collection techniques Prepare samples for testing to include labeling, centrifugation, decanting and aliquoting, etc. Maintain adequate supplies for all phlebotomy and specimen procurement procedures Answer incoming calls for the laboratory service - finding and relaying accurate information or referring the caller to technical personnel Perform standard diagnostic tests/procedures such as bleeding time, occult blood, urine dipstick, pregnancy test, fingerstick glucose Perform sterilization on the autoclave, and cleans glassware and other reusable items Identify and appropriately responds to adverse reactions such as fainting, nausea, vomiting, convulsions, and arrests Promotion Potential: Selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level. Work Schedule: A variety of work schedules; Full Time, Part Time, and/or Intermittent.
