MOTOR VEHICLE MECHANIC
The Motor Vehicle Mechanic repairs, rebuilds, or overhauls major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, buses, trucks or tractors. Work involves most of the following: Diagnosing the source of trouble and determining the extent of repairs required; replacing worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, or other engine parts; grinding and adjusting valves; rebuilding carburetors; overhauling transmissions; and repairing fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems. In general, the work of the Motor Vehicle Mechanic requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent. This position will primarily perform maintenance activities on military and commercially designed firefighting vehicles, will also perform these duties on refueling vehicles/equipment. Performs any other duties as assigned. Will be required to work selected weekends and holidays.
Valid driver’s license. A CDL A/B may be required for company designated positions.
Level II Standard for Emergency Vehicle Technician Professional Qualification (IAW MFPA 1071)
Basic computer skills
This position requires interface with government representatives and the individual shall be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Be Material Handling Equipment (MHE) qualified on 2K through 15K forklifts.
For entry into this specialty, completion of high school or general education development equivalency is mandatory.
ASE Certification - Preferred
Must have a minimum of three years’ experience in vehicle maintenance in gasoline and diesel engines and related vehicle systems such as electrical, air conditioning, Additional experience in fire fighting vehicle repair/troubleshooting; bulk fluid pumping systems repair/troubleshooting; vehicle wrecker operations/vehicle recovery may be required for company designated positions.
