Oil Spill Response Technician (HazMat) position is critical to Port Operations having a Oil Spill Response team that has equipment and materials ready for daily ship booming support and emergency oil spill recovery operations at JBPHH Pearl Harbor Hawaii.

• The Technician worker is responsible for coordinating the preventative and corrective maintenance of oil spill response equipment. Ensuring that on-site oil spill response lockers are properly stocked with materials and assisting with training of personnel assigned to the JBPHH Port Operations Contract. Maintaining Personnel Protective Equipment, and managing Hazardous Materials used by Port Operations Personnel in the daily accomplishment of Port Operations Missions and maintenance functions. This position is also responsible for supply points that receive, store and issue HazMat to their assigned zones.

• The worker consults with supervisors on policy matters and any actions that represent a significant deviation from established requirements.

• The worker will advise employees of change in safety and environmental policies and procedures.

• The worker performs technical research and compiles factual data for management in relation to chemicals used at JBPHH Port Operations and safety-related information to ensure proper documentation and quality-related requirements are being met.

• The technician performs inspections of hazardous material issue points and waste areas ensuring compliance.

• The technician will recommend changes and assist work centers to reach compliance standards.

• The technician acquires the Material Safety Data Sheets (SDS), discusses/develops the process for reducing/controlling the safety and environmental risks with the shops.

• The position will require a thorough understanding of the chemical health risk and other technical data contained in SDS.

• The HazMat Technician position is responsible for the following areas:

o Shelf life inspections, use of hazardous chemicals, additional use restrictions or personnel protection requirements, obtaining approval to requisition, purchase or use a new HazMat, MSDS, work zone configuration, MSDS binders.

• Must be able to perform basic mathematics.

• Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English.

• Must possess a strong desire to provide excellent customer service solutions and interact with coworkers and clients in a courteous and professional manner.

• Must be motivated to perform other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of one-three (1-3) years’ experience in the position applied for (referenced above).
• Must have a good working knowledgeable of Navy regulations; systems, programs, policies, nomenclature, work methods, manuals, or other established guidelines.
• Must be able to pass a background investigation and gain access to military installations.
• The position is on a federal military installation. Candidates/employees will need to drive onto the military installation to gain access to the respective building for their position.
• This position will require travel on the Navy Base. If operating a Government vehicle, the candidate must be able to pass a Motor Vehicle background check.
• Experience working at Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickham is highly desired.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
• Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team


To perform this job successfully, an individual should have general to moderate computer knowledge. Working knowledge of internet software; spreadsheet software, word processing software and MS Office Suite is a plus.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: There are currently no Security Clearance requirements for this position; however, candidates must be able to successfully pass a background check. Due to the location of this work, US Citizenship is required. Bowhead reserves the right to change this requirement if necessitated by business needs or contractual obligations.
