Overview:

 

This position supports medication access efforts across outpatient pharmacy services by assisting with prior authorizations and related patient support activities.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • reviewing insurance requirements
  •  submitting and tracking prior authorization requests
  •  communicating with providers and payors,
  • helping ensure timely access to medications for patients.

 

The ideal candidate will have strong communication and organizational skills, attention to detail, and experience working in outpatient or prior authorization pharmacy environments. Experience with insurance navigation, prior authorizations, and electronic medical records is preferred.

 

 

Qualifications:

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • All Pharmacy Technicians must be registered with the Florida Board of Pharmacy as a Registered Pharmacy Technician. 
  • L2 technicians must have CPhT or XCPT technician certification within 6 months of hire.

Education, Experience, and Training:

  • Must meet all requirements of a Pharmacy Technician Level 1, including required competencies. 
  • In addition, one of the following requirements must be met:
  • 12 months of Shands Pharmacy Technician experience, preferred.
  •  6 months of Shands Pharmacy Technician experience and one of the following: Two years hospital/institutional pharmacy or retail pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrate the ability to contribute to effective working relationships.
  • Experience managing projects preferred.
  •  Experience with Microsoft Office Suite preferred

Job Knowledge:

  • Must know how to operate typewriter, calculator, fax machine, and computer workstation.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to perform mathematical calculations required to prepare medications.
  • Some knowledge of insurance and billing regarding ambulatory practices highly desired.

Additional Requirement: As a condition of employment within the Pharmacy Services Department of Shands Hospital all employees must be accessible by telephone. This requires each employee to provide a valid telephone number to the department staff assistant, in order for the department to reach them in the event of hospital need and/or emergency.
