We are seeking an Optician to:

  • Join the UW Health Eye Care Team who provides comprehensive care to patients of all ages.
  • Assist patients with selecting the right fit, shape, style of eye-wear and dispense contact lenses.
  • Perform eye-glass repairs and adjustments.
  • Educate patients and families on proper eye-wear care.


Minimum - High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred - Completion of an accredited Optician Vision Care Program

Work Experience:

Minimum - Computer experience required.  Two or more years previous eye care experience

Preferred - One or more years optician experience.  Lab training or experience preferred.  Contact lens training or experience preferred.  Optical lab experience and/or optometric technician experience.  One or more years of work experience with processing insurance claims

Licenses and Certifications:

Minimum - Obtain ABO Certification within 18-months or three (3) testing periods from the date of hire, and maintain the certification

Preferred - American Board of Opticianry (ABO) Certification and/or National Contact Lens (NCLE) Certification

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Excellent patient service skills and organizational skills
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of eyewear designs and uses
  • Understanding of optical business procedures

Work Schedule100% FTE, 40 hours per week. Scheduled shifts are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM. Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the department.
